Lane Closes the Gap

After plenty of back-and-forth with no flops, Jonathan Lane raised and Matt Matros three bet. Lane made it four, and Matros called. The flop fell {j-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Hearts}, and Matros check-called. Same action on the {k-Spades} turn and {k-Diamonds} river. Lane tabled {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}, and kings and jacks took the pot. He has pulled nearly even with Matros.

Lane Picks Up Some Chips

Jonathan Lane raised on the button, and Matt Matros called. Matros bet out at the {a-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop, and Lane called. Matros slowed down and check-called the {j-Spades} turn and {10-Diamonds} river. Lane showed {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}, and top two took the hand.

Matt Hawrilenko Eliminated in 3rd Place ($124,837)

Matt Hawrilenko - 3rd Place
Matt Hawrilenko - 3rd Place

Matt Hawrilenko was short when he doubled up through Matt Matros, but then he gave back those chips one hand later. Down to his last four bets, he got it all in, again against Matros, on a {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} flop.

Hawrilenko: {q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} - top two pair
Matros: {k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} - flush draw

The {5-Diamonds} on the turn put Matros in the lead and meant Hawrilenko needed to catch a queen or a jack on the river. Instead it was the {3-Hearts}, and Hawrilenko was eliminated in third place by his good friend. This is Hawrilenko's fourth cash of the series and leaves him just short of a second bracelet. He left his chips to Matros, who now has the chip lead in pursuit of his own second bracelet.

Alway even-keeled, Hawrilenko is taking a quick break (a phone call to his wife and some frozen yogurt) and then jumping straight into the $50k Players' Championship.

Break Counts

The final three are taking a quick break between the no limit and limit halves of the level to color up the T1,000 ante chips. Here are where they stand:

Chip counts/puntos
Matt Matros 2,325,000 725,000 pos
Jonathan Lane 1,250,000 -650,000 neg
Matt Hawrilenko 520,000 -180,000 neg

Strange Hand to End No Limit Round

Matt Matros raised his button to 60,000, and Jonathan Lane called out of the big blind.

Flop: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{6-Hearts} - Lane checked, and Matros bet 60,000. Lane then check-raised to a small 135,000. Matros called.

Turn: {9-Diamonds} - Lane tried again with a 160,000 bet, and Matros called.

River: {a-Diamonds} - The board paired on the river, and Lane checked it. Matros didn't mind the river or the check and bet 300,000. Lane instantly tossed away his cards.

Brandon Meyers Eliminated in 4th Place ($92,642)

Brandon Meyers out in 4th.
Brandon Meyers out in 4th.

Brandon Meyers was chip leader by a wide margin at the end of the last No Limit round. But 30 minutes of Limit had him on the ropes. All it took was one quick No Limit cooler to send him home in fourth place.

Meyers called all in with {q-Hearts}{q-Spades} to discover that Matt Matros had him dominated with {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}. The board fell {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, and suddenly Meyers' evening was over. Matros, who was the super short stack an hour ago, is now second in chips with around 1.6 million.

Four-Handed Update

My how one round of Limit can change everything with only 54 bets on the table. Brandon Meyers went from huge chip leader to short stack, and Jonathan Lane took over the lead.

Chip counts/puntos
Jonathan Lane 1,900,000 550,000 pos
Matt Matros 1,000,000 420,000 pos
Matt Hawrilenko 700,000 160,000 pos
Brandon Meyers 600,000 -1,600,000 neg

Meyers Wheelin' Again

Matt Hawrilenko raised on the button. Brandon Meyers three bet from the small blind, and Hawrilenko called. Then Hoss called bets on every street of the {k-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{4-Spades} board to find that Meyers rivered a wheel with {a-Hearts}{5-Spades}. Not the first time we've seen this hand today.
