Artur Martirosian, Defending Champ Juan Pardo Try to Catch Up to Vicente Delgado on Day 2 of the EPT Cyprus $50,000 Super High Roller

Artur Martirosian

Vicente Delgado stormed into the lead on the first day of the European Poker Tour Cyprus $50,000 Super High Roller, and an elite field filled with some of the biggest names in poker will try to track him down when Day 2 begins at 12:30 p.m. local time.

Delgado takes 1,880,000 into the day, more than twice his closest challenger. That happens to be EPT champion Artur Martirosian, no stranger to competing against the game’s best with nearly $16 million in live career earnings, who sits in second place with 910,000. Daniel Rezaei (780,000), Biao Ding (741,000), and Alexander Zubov (660,000) round out the top five at the start of the day.

Delgado finished second to Juan Pardo in this event last year but exacted a bit of revenge when he busted Pardo yesterday. The defending champion soon reentered and enters Day 2 with 262,000. Other players returning include Santhosh Suvarna (601,000), Ognyan Dimov (584,000), Thomas Eychenne (252,000), Aleksejs Ponakovs (219,000), and EPT Barcelona back-to-back Super High Roller champion Kayhan Mokri (219,000). EPT champs Adrian Mateos and Dimitar Danchev are at the bottom of the counts with 192,000 and 182,000, respectively.

The 16 players returning for Day 2 aren’t the only ones who can make a run at the title, however. Late registration remains open until the start of play, so there is still an opportunity for more players to jump in. A total of 36 players have entered so far. The action on Day 2 picks up on Level 9 with blinds of 3,000-6,000 and a 6,000 big blind ante, with the starting stack of 250,000 still worth more than 40 big blinds. Play is scheduled to reach the final table today, which will then be streamed on PokerStars’ YouTube channel tomorrow.

Stay tuned to PokerNews throughout the day for all the live updates as this star-studded field battles to reach the final table here at the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel and Casino in North Cyprus.
