Last year at in Barcelona, France's Simon Wiciak defeated João Sydenstricker heads-up to win the EPT Main Event for €1,134,375.

Wiciak bested the field of 2,120 runners for the golden trophy, his first major live poker title, and the career-best seven-figure score.

The Frenchman struck a three-handed deal with Sydenstricker and Britain's Carl Shaw that flattened the payouts, and the trio played on for the trophy and an additional €108,975 in prize money.

Pommier Doubles Through Sampirisi

Action folded to Alex Sampirisi who opened to 250,000 from the button. Christophe Pommier three-bet to 550,000 from the small blind and Sampirisi called.

The players saw the 6♣4♣6♥ flop and Pommier checked. Sampirisi moved all in and Pommier called.

The cards were held face down for around 1-minute to wait for action on the other table, and then the players flipped their hands.

Pommier had flopped trips, and he only improved on the A♥ turn.

The 9♦ river secured Pommier the double up, just a few hands before the first break of the day.

On the A♥K♥J♠ flop, Samprisi check-called versus a bet of 100,000 from his opponent.

The turn brought the 6♠, and Samprisi check-called again versus a bet of 600,000 from Schwippert, after a reasonable period of thought.

The 6♦ river completed the board. Schwippert fired out a bet of 1,700,000 when it was checked to him, and after around three minutes of thought, Samprisi made what appeared to be a crying call. He was shown the bad news when Schwippert showed A♠A♣ for the nut full house.

Shacar Gets a Double

Grzegorz Kozieja opened from under the gun to 225,000 and Najib Shacar moved all in for around 635,000 from the hijack. Kozieja made a snap-call, but the cards were held face down for around 3-minutes whilst action continued on the other table. After the other table had finished their hand, the players flipped their cards.

Shacar was looking to hold and the 10♠K♣10♥ flop came his way, giving him a boat.

The 5♦ turn and 2♠ river secured his double, and Shacar sat back with around 15 big blinds after the hand.

Komorowski Gets Some Back from Kraous

Anton Kraous opened to 250,000 from the cutoff and Maciej Komorowski three-bet shoved for 710,000 from the small blind. Kraous called with a covering stack to put Komorowski at risk.

Things looked grim for Komorowski after Kraous made top pair on the 2♣10♦6♥ flop but the Q♣ turn gave Komorowski plenty of additional outs. The J♠ river gave Komorowski a bigger pair to secure the double up through Kraous.

Kraous Puts Komorowski in Blender

The 3♣ rolled off on the turn, and Komorowski again check-called a bet of 675,000 from his opponent.

The 9♥ river completed the board, and Komorowski checked once more. After some thought, Kraous slid out a bet of 1,700,000, sending Komorowski deep into the tank. After about three minutes of thought, he called.

Kraous showed A♥5♣ for the turned wheel straight, while Komorowski had A♦J♥ for a pair of aces, in an unlucky button versus big blind spot.
