The 2025 Free Poker Network (FPN) Desert Dash-for-Cash National Championship is in swing at the Golden Nugget in North Las Vegas and saw a one-day tournament play out Thursday in the form of $200 WPT Passport. Craig Ashley of Office Bar in Illinois battled through the final table to win a $5,000 WPT passport, $200 in cash and entry into Sunday's Championship event.

The $200 WPT Passport, which awarded a $5,000 passport to any 2025 WPT stop, drew 89 entrants and offered $200 cash and Championship event entry to players who made the final table.

Less than a year ago, Ashley won the FPN 'Step in the Ring' National Championship for $12,500 in this same venue. It was a clash of champions as he defeated heads-up opponent Darren Sneed, who won last year's Tag Team event.

“I’m pretty excited," Ashley told PokerNews in a winner's interview. "I wasn’t even sure I was going to play it.”

A big heads-up pot brewed in the Nugget ballroom as Heath Bird moved all in for 10,700 on a board of 9452 and was called by a bigger-stacked opponent.

Heath Bird: 55 All in
Opponent: 44

Both opponents had flopped sets and Bird had the best of it as the 10 bricked off on the river to earn him a double.

"Set over set!" the opponent cried.

"Jesus! Wow!" someone at the table reacted.

Tens Good for Gideon

Nivel 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Action started with an early position raise and a call from the next seat before a middle position player three-bet to 1,600. Dawn Gideon then four-bet to 4,000 in the hijack and only the three-bettor called.

The flop of JJ5 checked through and the same action took place on the 3 turn. The opponent then bet 1,500 on the 3 river and Gideon called.

The opponent showed AQ for ace-high and Gideon showed 1010 to win the pot with a pair of tens.

PokerNews coverage of the 2025 Free Poker Network (FPN) Desert Dash-for-Cash National Championship at Las Vegas' Golden Nugget continues today with the $200 Tag Team Championship.

Each contestant will put up $100 as duos will face off in the Nugget ballroom starting at 5 p.m. local time.

The event will see each team beginning with a 20,000 starting stack and late entry open through Level 6. The final table will also pay out $2,500 in cash.

The teams that make the final table will advance to Sunday's Desert Dash-For-Cash Championship Main Event, where participants will spar for a piece of the $100,000 cash prize and $10,000 in Mystery Bounties.

Last year, Phil Wilburn and Darren Sneed of Mr. G's & Joe's Older Than Dirt (KY) won the event for $1,500, while Team PokerNews finished in 6th place represented by Chad Holloway and Connor Richards. Sneed is off to a hot start this year and finished second in Thursday's WPT Passport event.
