Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.

In the 19th episode, Connor speaks with former poker pro Eugene Katchalov, one of Ukraine's all-time money leaders who fled the country in 2022 after Russia's invasion and has since returned to the war-torn region with his family.

Katchalov, a former PokerStars ambassador, talked about growing up in New York City, his poker glory days and 2007 Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic victory for $2.5 million, returning to Ukraine and misconceptions about the longstanding conflict with Russia. He also discussed his venture into esports and new plans to get back into poker with a project aimed at leveling the playing field between pros and recreationals.

Scott Seiver opened to 5,000 from middle position and Alejandro Lococo three-bet to 17,500 from the cutoff. Seiver made the call.

the flop came K♦9♠5♥ and Seiver check-called a 10,500 bet from Lococo.

Both players checked the 2♠ turn leading to the 8♠ river. Seiver checked and Lococo bet 60,000. Seiver used two time extensions, saying out loud that he had the ace of spades and was considering raising as he contemplated his options. Eventually Seiver opted to fold and Lococo showed a bluff with A♥10♠ before taking the pot.

Altman Puts Raus in Tough Spot

Action was caught on the flop of 5♣4♦2♥ in a hand between Brian Altman on the button and Martin Raus in the big blind.

With about 40,000 already in the pot, Raus bet 14,000 and Altman made the call.

On the K♦ turn, Raus continued with a bet of 22,500 and Altman moved all in, putting Raus at risk, who had roughly 100,000 back.

"Interesting Brian, you did this to me the other day," said Raus, as he worked through his decision.

After using a time bank card, Raus reluctantly tossed his cards into the muck.

James Collopy from under the gun checked to Sam Soverel on the button, who bet to put Collopy all in for his stack of 99,000. Collopy sat deep in the tank, using five time banks before making the call for his tournament life.

Soverel turned over 2♠2♥ for a full house, deuces full of sevens, and Collopy tossed 8♦8♣ in the muck as he left the tournament area.

Elias Gutierrez raised to 5,000 in middle position and was three-bet by Wagner Wysotchanski to 11,000 out of the small blind. Nicholas Seward then cold four-bet to 23,000 from the big blind.

Gutierrez got out of the way and Wysotchanski then five-bet to 60,000, resulting in a quick fold from Seward.

The next hand, Wysotchanski raised to 6,000 on the button and Seward flatted in the small blind.

The flop came 9♠6♠4♥ and Seward check-folded to a bet of 7,000 from Wysotchanski.

Shorr check-called a 24,500 bet from Gumz on the K♠ turn.

The 6♣ river completed any potential flush draws and Shorr quickly shoved for around 30,000. Gumz folded A♥J♥ for a Broadway straight face up and Shorr took the pot.
