Action was picked up with Rodney Spriggs all in for 22,000 and a player in middle position putting him at risk.
Rodney Spriggs: Q♦J♣
Middle Position: K♣8♣
Spriggs had two live cards but would need to improve to stay in the tournament. The board ran out 5♣A♥2♠9♣J♥ and Spriggs managed to find a jack on the river to take the pot and double up.
With 147 entrants, the tournament director has announced the field will play down to its final 18 players, who will all make the money and advance to Day 2.
Action was picked up on the flop with the board showing J♣7♦7♠ with roughly 9,000 already in the middle. After the flop Michael Skimbo was all in for 139,000, and Jeff Sowell putting him at risk.
Michael Skimbo: A♣7♣
Jeff Sowell: Q♠J♠
Skimbo flopped trips and was in a great position to take a massive pot. Needing a jack to improve past the trip sevens of Skimbo, the 4♣ on the turn, and A♥ on the river gave Skimbo a full house sevens full of aces to double up and leave Sowell on fumes.
Jeff Sowell opened the action with a raise to 4,500 from under the gun, and was called by Matt Rogers in the hijack and Michael Skimbo in the cutoff. Then a player on the button three-bet to 16,500, which got Sowell to fold, while Rogers and Skimbo both made the call.
The flop came 5♥8♦Q♦ and Rogers led out for a bet of 16,500 to put himself all in. Skimbo quickly made the call, while the player on the button folded to leave the players heads up, with Rogers at risk.
Matt Rogers: J♠J♦
Michael Skimbo: Q♥9♥
Rogers elected to slow play his pocket jacks preflop and let Skimbo take the lead with his pair of queens. When the board ran out K♥ on the turn, and 8♣ on the river, Skimbo's two pair queens and eights was good enough to take the pot, as Rogers was eliminated.

Big Hands
There were several big hands early in Day 1b, it started off when Jeremy Drewerymade a straight flush in Level 1 against an ace high flush to take a sizable pot. Then Jared Swinger found himself on the brink of elimination after flopping bottom set, against his opponents middle set. All the money got in on the flop, and with the cards on their back, Swinger turned quads to stay alive.
Then to burst the money bubble after a player was eliminated at a nearby table, Brian Lanning was all in and at risk with pocket jacks, against David Gallimore's pocket queens. Lanning needed to find help to avoid being the bubble boy, instead Gallimore flopped a set and turned quads to put the 22 remaining players in money, and on to Day 2.
Brian Lanning
Matt Rogers who was the short stack (22.000) when players bagged last night for Day 1a, was successfully able to find a bag for Day 1b as well, after his opponent sent him deep in the tank, trying to pull off a major bluff. After several minutes debating his decision, he eventually found a call and was delighted to see his pocket aces were good, as he took in a massive pot on his way to bagging for the second consecutive Day 1 flight. Any player who bags on multiple Day 1 flights will receive a min cash for their smaller stack and take the bigger bag with them to Day 2.
