Amateurs Gone Wild

Nivel 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

We just witnessed a hand that shows why the $1,000 tournaments have derisively been dubbed donkaments by poker fans and players alike.

With the flop showing the {7-Spades}{8-Spades} and the river card a {10-Spades}, a player checked and then simply called an opponent's bet. The opponent, Javier Etayo, flipped up two spades for a small flush, and watched his opponent turn over {A-Spades}{9-Spades} for the nuts. The floor was immediately called and, despite Etayo protesting that he had no problems with the action, the opponent was assessed a one-round penalty for checking the nuts on the river.

The penalized player seemed a bit confused over all the commotion, but he politely offered an apology to Etayo as he left the table. Etayo looked up and smiled sincerely, saying "No man, don't be sorry. Thank you actually, you would have had all my chips if you raise there. I'm actually on a freeroll now!"
