Racener Runs Into Set

Nivel 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Three players, including Steve Zolotow and John Racener, saw a flop come {3-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Spades}. Zolotow checked from the big blind, Racener bet 2,100 from one seat over, and the third player raised to 5,200 from the hijack. Zolotow folded, but Racener called.

The turn brought the {2-Clubs}, and both Racener and his opponent checked. The river brought the {4-Hearts}. Racener led for 10,800 and his opponent called immediately. Racener showed {K-Clubs}{J-Spades} for a busted gutshot and flush draw, and his opponent {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for a set of nines.

Racener slips to 29,500. Zolotow has just over 37,000.

Filtz Eliminates Fischer

Nivel 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Justin Filtz, fresh off his runner-up finish in Event No. 40 ($5K NLHE 6-max) for which he earned just a smidge under a half million, was just now in a hand versus Seth Fischer in which Fischer was all in with {A-}{K-} while Filtz had {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}.

The flop came {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}{J-Hearts}, then the turn brought the {A-Hearts}, pairing Fischer. But the {10-Diamonds} spiked on the river, giving Filtz a set and sending Fischer out.

Filtz now has 74,000.

Deeb Goes Fishing

Shaun Deeb raised to 1,200 from the cutoff and was called by David "Devilfish" Ulliott on the button. The blinds got out of the way and it was heads up to the {9-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{K-Clubs} flop. Check-check it went, leading to the {8-Spades} turn. Again, the action went check-check.

When the {Q-Diamonds} hit the turn, deeb checked, Ulliott bet 4,000, and Deeb made the call. Ulliott showed {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}, but it was no good against the {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs} of Deeb.

Stein Can't Get Away

Nivel 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Facing a four-bet shove from a shorter-stacked opponent, Sam Stein tanked for more than two minutes deciding what to do. Finally he made the call, turning over {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}, and was disheartened to see his opponent had him dominated with {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}.

The board came {3-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}, and Stein is now down to 14,000.

River Fabulous for Fabrice, Agony for Arieh

Nivel 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

The following hand took place just before the dinner break.

Josh Arieh found himself all in on the turn versus Fabrice Soulier with the board showing {7-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}. Arieh had {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades} for top set, while Soulier had made a worse set of deuces with {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}.

The dealer burned and turned the river... the {2-Diamonds}! "Wow," said Soulier, while Arieh stood for a full half-minute, hands on head, dismayed at the sight of the one-outer that had knocked him out.

Soulier goes to the break with about 90,000.

Frankenberger Rushin', Not Russian

Nivel 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Andy Frankenberger
Andy Frankenberger

Andy Frankenberger had slipped to less than 13,000 before the following hand took place amid a conversation between himself an an opponent across the table. His opponent was marveling at the fact that Frankenberger could speak Russian.

Meanwhile, Frankenberger raised to 1,200 from the button, and it folded to Freddy Deeb in the big blind who made it 4,200 to go. Frankenberger then set his entire stack in front as a reraise to 12,400 total. Deeb thought a long while, checking and rechecking his cards several times, before finally folding his {A-Spades}{7-Spades} face up.

"So that's amazing," continued the player from across the table. "You can just speak Russian all day [to native speakers] and they think you're Russian."

"Oh, no... they can understand me," said Frankenberger. "But they know I'm not Russian."

Frankenberger is nonetheless feeling some urgency, wanting to improve upon that short stack soon before the blinds creep up much further. He's at 16,500 now, while Deeb still has a comfortable 75,000.
