Hellmuth Gets There

Phil Hellmuth

On the very next hand, Hellmuth limped his button and Chan checked.

The flop came {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Spades} and Chan checked to Hellmuth who fired 24,000. Chan quickly moved all in and Hellmuth called.

Chan: {8-Spades}{2-Clubs}
Hellmuth: {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}

Chan's flopped two pair were flipping against the flush and gut shot strait draw of Hellmuth. The {K-Clubs} turn completed Hellmuth's hand and Chan bricked his full house redraw as the {9-Diamonds} hit the river.

Hellmuth has now regained some control and sits with about 310,000.

Hellmuth At Risk

Hellmuth was able to get his remaining chips in the middle with {10-Clubs}{2-Spades} against the {j-Clubs}{6-Clubs} of Chan.

The flop came {a-Spades}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} which brought no help to either player. However, the {10-Hearts} turn gave Hellmuth the lead and left Chan drawing to just three outs.

The {Q-Clubs} river brought a minor roar from the crowd but it just missed and Hellmuth doubles to about 155,000

Hellmuth Almost Done

After no raises headed the turn on a board of {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{5-Spades}, Hellmuth checked to Chan on the button who fired out 20,000. Hellmuth check raised to 40,000, leaving himself with just 108,000 behind.

Chan called and the river came the {9-Clubs}. Hellmuth fired 36,000 but was unable to get Chan off of his {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}, good enough to beat the {6-Spades}{4-Spades} of Hellmuth.

Hellmuth Moves In

After Chan had taken a couple of small pots, Hellmuth was down to just 208,000. On the button, Hellmuth went to raise before realizing just how short his stack had become. Instead, he moved all in and Chan took a few minutes before finally deciding to fold.

More For Chan

The board read {9-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{a-Clubs} and Chan decided to check-call Hellmuth's 55,000 chip bet. The river came the {q-Hearts} prompting Chan to fire out this time for 100,000. Hellmuth took little time in making the call but was upset to see that Chan had made to pair on the river with {q-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

Chan is now at about 1,500,000 while Hellmuth has slid all the way down to 300,000.

Hellmuth Tries to Get Sneaky

From the button, Chan raised to 32,000 and Hellmuth called.

The flop came {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and both players checked.

Before the turn was dealt, Hellmuth decided to play a little unconventionally and bet 32,000 in the dark. When the turn came the {7-Diamonds} Chan announced he was all in. Hellmuth, who had 426,000 left, looked back at his cards and then back at Chan. Chan told Hellmuth that he didn't like the check raise as Hellmuth mucked his cards and Chan showed him {Q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for an open ended straight draw.

After having started passively, Chan has really begun to pick up the aggression. He hasn't given Hellmuth any room to breathe and has him on the ropes.
