Hellmuth Cruising

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth started the WSOPE off with a bang making a deep run in the €2,650 6-Max event. The 11-time bracelet winner ended up finishing in seventh place taking home € 24,183. In todays event Hellmuth arrived in his usual style and was one of the last players to register. Even though he didn't play as many hours some of the others did he still managed to get hold of quite some chips.

In the hand we witnessed Hellmuth raised to 1,500 from the hijack. WPT winner Alexander Kuzmin three-bet to 4,000 from the cut-off and after the three remaining players folded Hellmuth made the call. The flop brought out {J-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{7-Spades} and Hellmuth check-called the 3,000 chip bet Kuzmin put out. On the turn Hellmuth checked in the dark so it was up to Kuzmin to decide what to do when the {J-Hearts} popped up. The Russian player checked behind giving us the river card.

The river was the {Q-Spades} and Hellmuth bet 6,000 putting Kuzmin to the test. After quite some thinking the Russian player called and Hellmuth announced he had trip jacks right away. Hellmuth turned over {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and raked in the pot leaving Kuzmin with just 10,000 chips. Hellmuth is cruising with 78,000 chips and looking to make another deep run.
