The Jelassi Rush

Jelassi Ramzi on a Rush
Jelassi Ramzi on a Rush

Ramzi Jelassi is our new chip leader with well over 200,000. We have been told that one of casualties during his rise to prominence has been Randy Dorfman. Dorfman, whose children were cheering him on by the rail, has headed out into the Cannes evening after clashing once too often with Jelassi. Here he is scooping in another haul of chips.

Sam Stein started off the action with a 2,600 bet and three players called (Francis Dubois, Sam Chartier and Ramzi Jelassi). The flop was {9-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {3-Spades} and Jelassi bet 6,000 into the field and only Dubois made the call. The turn was the {10-Spades} and Jelassi bet 23,000 and once again Dubois made the call (leaving himself 19,000 behind). The last card was the {7-Hearts} and both players checked. Dubois had missed everything and Jelassi won with two pair.

Jelassi{10-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {3-Hearts}
Dubois{A-Spades} {9-Spades} {Q-Clubs} {8-Clubs}

Then moments later our French Media colleagues tell us that Jelassi has also eliminated Evgeny Zaytsev.

Billirakis is in Full Control

Steve Billirakis
Steve Billirakis

We caught the action on the flop in a multi-way pot with {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{J-Spades} on the board. Two players checked to Billirakis who bet 7,000. Elie Payan was sitting right next to Billirakis and he decided to raise to 15,000 getting the two other players to fold easily. Billirakis made the call.

The turn was the {5-Clubs} and Billirakis checked to Payan who bet 9,000 with only 21,000 behind. Billirakis gave it some thought and decided to put his French opponent all-in. Payan snap-folded giving the pot to Billirakis who's been on a roll the last level.

Trickett Forces a Fold Out of Kovalchuk

The flop was {K-Spades} {10-Spades} {3-Hearts} and Oleksii Kovalchuk had bet 8,000 after several players had checked to him in late position. The first checker in the hand was Sam Trickett and he check-raised pot (over 30,000) and Kovalchuk folded quicker than a cheetah chasing a gazelle.

O'Dea Doubles Through Motorov

Eoghan O'Dea
Eoghan O'Dea

Dmitry Motorov was chip leader, but after just doubling up November Nine finalist Eoghan O'Dea he's now back in the pack. Our colleagues witnessed the hand and told us everything that just went down.

David Williams limped after which O'Dea raised to 3,600. Motorov decided to make a pot sized re-raise to 13,500 which got everyone but O'Dea to fold. The flop brought out {Q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades} and O'Dea front-shoved all-in for his remaining 34,500 chips. Motorov made the call.

Dimitry Motorov{A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Eoghan O'Dea{8-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}

The turn was the {Q-Diamonds} and the river the {5-Spades} giving O'Dea a huge double up.

Chop-Chop!

Randy Dorfman and Jelassi Ramzi seem to have forgotten their little spat earlier and are now on more amicable speaking terms. This hasn't stopped them playing aggressive poker against each other. Both players just got it in on the flop and the result was a split pot.

Callaghan Takes Some From Mercier

We caught the action on a {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{10-Spades}{Q-Spades} board where Mercier decided to check-call the 8,800 bet Callaghan threw into the pot. The river was the {Q-Hearts} and Mercier checked again. When Callaghan also checked Mercier announced he had {A-}{10-}. Callaghan turned over {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} as Mercier sighed, "Damn". Thin value for Callaghan who wondered if Mercier would have called a small river bet. Mercier answered with a short "Maybe".

Mercier is still smiling with 70,000 chips wile Callaghan gaines some chips getting him up to 64,000.
