O'Dwyer Doubles Through Fernandez

Nivel 12 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Steve O Dwyer
Steve O Dwyer

Steve O'Dwyer and Sergio Fernandez were heads-up on a flop of 4510.

O'Dwyer checked from the big blind and Fernandez bet 20,000 from early position. O'Dwyer then check-raised to 58,000 and, undeterred, Fernandez made it 145,000 to go. O'Dwyer called.

The 8 fell on the turn and O'Dywer checked to Fernandez, who put O'Dwyer all in for his last 256,000. O'Dwyer snap-called and a showdown was held.

Sergio Fernandez: KK

O'Dwyer had turned a straight and Fernandez was already drawing dead.

An irrelevant J came on the river and O'Dwyer was awarded the double up.

Andrian Sniffs Out Gutierrez's Bluff

Nivel 10 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Simone Andrian

The action was picked up with the flop reading KAK. Simone Andrian had bet from the button and Elias Gutierrez check-raised to 22,000. Andrian called and they went to the turn.

Gutierrez bet 35,000 when the 8 came on the turn. Andrian called.

Gutierrez shoved for Andrian's remaining 75,000 after the dealer dropped the J on the river. Andrian used one of his time-bank cards before making the call for the remainder of his stack.

Gutierrez flipped over Q3 for queen-high. Andrian showed AJ for a pair of aces and earned the double-up.

O'Dwyer Nearly Doubles After Zouari Makes a Light Call

Nivel 9 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

Steve O'Dwyer opened to 12,000 on the button and was called by Jeremie Zouari in the big blind.

Zouari check-called 10,000 bet from O'Dwyer on the 7Q8 flop and a 45,000 bet from O'Dwyer on the 5 turn.

The Q completed the board and Zouari checked a final time, prompting O'Dwyer to bet 114,000, leaving himself just 1,000 behind.

Zouari went deep into the tank and burned up two time extensions before saying, "I have ace-jack." O'Dwyer remained stoic.

Zouari thought a while longer and stuck in a call. O'Dwyer tabled KQ for trip queens and Zouari showed he held AJ as advertised to award O'Dwyer the double up.

Nivel 9 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Ognyan Dimov
Ognyan Dimov

Ognyan Dimov raised to 12,000 from early position with Hassan Nashar and Sam Grafton calling out of the blinds.

The 455 flop got checked to Dimov and he put out a continuation-bet of 11,000. Nashar check-raised to 32,000 which forced a fold from Grafton, but a call from Dimov.

Nashar bet 32,000 when the 4 hit the turn and Dimov called.

Nashar bet 32,000 again upon seeing the 10 drop on the river. Dimov raised to 155,000 and after pondering for a few moments, Nashar called.

Dimov flipped over K5 for a full house and took down the pot.

Elias Gutierrez Gunning For Another EPT Cyprus Victory in $25k Second Chance

Elias Gutiérrez
Elias Gutiérrez

A few short days ago, Elias Gutierrez bested a 59-entry field in the $25,000 SHR Warm Up to take down his first EPT title and the $417,570 first-place prize. Today, the PokerStars Team Pro finds himself in great position to win a second consecutive $25k title here at the 2024 European Poker Tour Cyprus.

The path to victory will not be easy, however, as the remaining field in Day 2 of $25k Second Chance is riddled with poker talent. Even more of poker’s elite are expected to show up as late-registration will remain open until the start of play at 12:30 p.m. local time. In total, the event has attracted 38 entries so far.

Gutierrez managed to build his stack to 808,000 last night, which places him second in chips of the returning 25 players from Day 1. The top spot belongs to high-roller regular Albert Daher, who bagged up 885,000 and will be looking to add a fourth EPT title to his collection. The only other player to breach the 800k mark yesterday was Hassan Nashar, whose wild play style led to him busting twice and reentering before surging up the ranks to end with 805,000.

Other notables who will return to the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel Casino & Spa for Day 2 include Duco ten Haven (115,000), Leonard Maue (174,000), Recep Aydemir (244,000), and Steve O'Dwyer — who was unable to gain much momentum in Day 1 and will bring 200,000 to work with in his pursuit to add to his over $40 million in live-tournament winnings.

Play on Day 2 will begin on Level 9, which features 3,000/6,000 blinds with a 6,000 big-blind ante. Levels will continue to last 30 minutes each and fifteen-minute breaks will be held after every four levels. A 75-minute dinner break is scheduled at the completion of Level 20, but is subject to change depending on players and tournament staff. Day 2 will continue until a winner is determined.

There is still a long way to go before the next high-roller champion is crowned, so be sure to stick with PokerNews as we continue to bring you all the action from the floor right up until the final card is dealt!
