The road to PokerStars European Poker Tour glory always has plenty of twists and turns, and the record-breaking 2023 EPT €5,300 Prague Main Event was no exception.

Jon Kyte, who had led the tournament from Day 3, entered the finale with 229 big blinds and a historic chip lead, one that was assumed to be unassailable. Padraig O'Neill had other ideas and was unexpectedly awarded the final EPT Trophy of the 2023 season after overcoming the Norwegian in heads-up play.

Known affectionately as "Smidge" in the Irish poker community, O'Neill came into the day as the shortest stack and turned his 12 big blinds into a €1,030,000 payout. With the victory, he became Ireland's second-ever EPT Main Event champion, 11 years after Steve O'Dwyer reigned supreme in Monte Carlo.

Kraous Running Well

Nivel 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

There were around 14,500 chips in the pot on Q6Q9. From the small blind, Anton Kraous led out for 7,500 when the 8 hit the river. Conor Odriscoll who was in middle position thought about his decision but eventually folded.

Itamar Nachshon was on the button, and approximately one minute passed before he called. However, he was then shown the bad news as Kraous tabled a full house with Q9. Nachshon then mucked his hand.

Zab’s Aggression Pays Off Against Klopcic

Nivel 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Ziga Klopcic opened the action from under the gun with a raise to 2,200 but was met with a three-bet to 6,300 from Attila Zab. After a moment of consideration, Klopcic decided to call.

The flop came 935, prompting Klopcic to check. Zab continued his aggression with a bet of 6,000. Klopcic again took his time but ultimately called.

When the 3 landed on the turn, Klopcic checked once more. Zab didn’t hesitate, shoving his remaining 17,100 chips into the middle. Klopcic went deep into the tank, carefully weighing his options, but eventually opted to fold, allowing Zab to scoop the sizeable pot without a showdown.
