Guilbert Needs to Run it Up

Nivel 7 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Johan Guilbert's stack has taken a beating and he was down to his last 3,500 chips, which he got in the middle and was put at risk by Ruslan Bakhtiev.

Johan Guilbert: Q10 All in
Ruslan Bakhtiev: A9

The runout of Q31084 gave Guilbert two pair, and got his stack back to around 10,000. However, there's still a long way to go to get back to the starting stack of 100,000.

Sokol Puts a Dent in Smolka's Stack

Nivel 7 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

With around 15,000 chips in the middle on a 9Q86 board, Kamil Sokol checked from the big blind and Dawid Smolka fired out 10,000 from the hijack. Sokol then put in a check-raise to 42,000, which Smolka called.

When the A dropped on the river, Sokol wasted no time in moving all in for 125,000, and Smolka quickly folded.

Flashback: Mohamed Mokrani Ships the 2024 Merit Poker Western Series Main Event

Mohamed Mokrani
Mohamed Mokrani

Last January at the 2024 Merit Poker Western Series, France's Mohamed Mokrani was crowned champion of the $3,300 Main Event, outlasting the 672-entry field and defeating Nichan Khorchidian in a brief heads-up duel to take home the title and top prize of $342,500. The $1,500,000 guarantee was easily eclipsed, with the final prize pool confirmed at $1,854,720.

Mokrani started the final day as the fifth-largest stack and went mostly under the radar before a late-night surge catapulted him ahead of perennial chip leaders Felipe Ketzer and Khorchidian during three-handed play. Mokrani only had $15,211 in recorded lifetime tournament earnings prior to this event, and the win was nearly forty times greater than his previous-best cash of $8,124.

Straight Flush Over Quads Sees Charlton Eliminated

Nivel 6 : Blinds 800/1,500, 1,500 ante

Ring those bad beat jackpot alarm bells!

Daniel Charlton opened from under the gun and Halil Tasyurek called from the hijack. Aliaksei Boika also called from the button, as did a player in the big blind.

They saw a flop of A76 where it checked to Boika, who put out a bet of 4,000, which only Charlton and Tasyurek called.

All three checked the 7 turn to see the 5 drop on the river, where again the action checked to Boika, who fired 20,000. After some deliberation, Charlton shoved for just over 130,000, which sent Tasyurek into the tank. After around two minutes, Tasyurek elected told, and in no time at all, Boika called.

Boika confidently flipped over 98 for a straight flush, but the table erupted as Charlton revealed 77 for quad sevens!

"This is how they get me out of here," said Charlton.

What a sick, sick hand. Lucky Charlton has a jacket with him because that was an absolute cooler!

Smolka Pushes Out Four Opponents on the Flop

Nivel 6 : Blinds 800/1,500, 1,500 ante

There was a limp from under the gun and Johan Guilbert also limped in the next seat. To his left with Boris Smuskevicius, who also limped in, before Dawid Smolka made it 13,000 from the small blind. The big blind called, as the the original three limpers.

When the flop came down 4AA, Smolka thought for some time before he fired out a small continuation-bet of 10,000, which earned him the pot as one by one, all of his four opponents folded.

Smolka closing in on the half a million mark!

Petleshkov and Uzan Play a Four-Bet Pot

Nivel 6 : Blinds 800/1,500, 1,500 ante

Ludovic Uzan, who just finished seventh in the $5,500 High Roller, had a three-bet of 15,000 in front of him from the small blind. Viliyan Petleshkov, who was in middle position, then four-bet to 43,300, which Uzan called.

They both saw a flop of 245 and after Uzan checked, Petleshkov fired out a continuation-bet of 16,300. This was enough to win the pot as Uzan quickly folded, and Petleshkov added some chips to his stack.
