Jaffee Picks Up Aces to Leave Swift on Fumes

Jon Swift raised to 40,000 in the hijack and Jared Jaffee three-bet to 120,000 on the button. Swift then moved all in and Jaffee snap-called for 480,000.

Jaffee had woken up with aces and was a big favorite to double up as the board ran out 7♦3♥8♠4♠K♣ to secure him the pot.

Swift was left with just 75,000 and was all in a few hands later from the small blind and up against Curt Kohlberg and Joel Micka.

The flop came 4♣8♦K♠ and Micka bet 55,000 from the button to chase Kohlberg in the big blind.

Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.

In the 18th episode, Connor speaks with author and psychologist Maria Konnikova about her family leaving Russia to come to the US, writing her first story in kindergarten, being mentored by Steven Pinker at Harvard, meeting Erik Seidel for the first time and her 2020 bestseller The Biggest Bluff that explored her poker journey.

Konnikova, a PokerStars ambassador, also talked about her research for an upcoming book into cheating in poker and other games, as well as game integrity rule changes implemented at EPT Barcelona that Konnikova said needed to go even further.

"I think what PokerStars has done is amazing. I think you need to go a step further and not have any electronics anywhere on the table," said Konnikova. "Like, I think phones need to be on the floor, in your bag."

"I would actually also ban sunglasses because ... there's so much technology that (that can enable cheating)."

Both players checked again on the 9♣ river and Wantman showed ace-high with A♦4♠, which was no good against the pair of fives of Yoon with 6♥5♥.

The next hand, Curt Kohlberg raised to 45,000 in the cutoff and Bohmerwald reraised to 180,000, leaving only a few chips behind. Kohlberg moved all in and Bohmerwald called off his last chips.

Carnero Picks Off Frasca's Bluff

Martin Carnero opened from early position and was called by Byung Shin in the small blind and Brian Frasca in the big blind.

The A♣J♠J♥ flop checked through to the 2♣ turn which saw Frasca lead for 85,000 from the big blind. Carnero put in the call and Shin quickly got out of the way.

The river brought the 9♠. Frasca kept up the aggression as he announced a bet of 265,000 and Carnero did not take long before he put in the call. Fransca said that he was bluffing while Carnero tabled A♥K♣ to drag the pot.
