Dayani Beats Ramnundlall in Showdown

Nivel 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

Teren Ramnundlall called a raise to 6,000 by Danny Dayani on the J645 turn while Eben Lottering folded and the two active players then checked the A on the river. Dayani revealed the QJ and won the pot before asking Lottering if he folded an ace with the smirk on the face.

Ronit Chamani Leads ZAR 50,000 High Roller Into Day 2

The ongoing SunBet Poker Tour Time Square stop features several High Roller competitions and the most expensive one of them is currently running with Day 2 of the ZAR 50,000 ($2,719) High Roller. Day 1 saw a total of 30 entries enter of which 21 players bagged up chips.

Ronit Chamani was the only player to more than quadruple her 300,000 starting stack and leads the way with 1,286,000 in chips. She currently sits in eighth place of the South African all-time money list with more than $940k in cashes and some deep runs during this series will bring her on the verge of reaching seven figures. Chamani finished third in the 2024 SPT GrandWest Main Event this past December and narrowly missed out on becoming the first female champion in an SPT Main Event, as did runner-up Diane Walker.

Imran Bhojani and Huawei Sun follow behind her on the leaderboard with several other notables such as Rajeev Poonhath, Alvin Pillay, Ahmed Karrim, Giovanni Zanette, Rudolf Fourie and Okkie Fourie all in contention as well. The late registration for the event remains open until approximately 4.30 p.m. local time.

More Notables Enter the Fray

Nivel 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

Around 50 satellite winners will be in action today by the looks of it and among them is also Harold Brooks, who would otherwise participate in the High Roller. Brooks is one of last year's SPT Main Event champions and now sits next to Jaco Mouton.

Jacobs Bets Out Sissou

Nivel 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

With more than 3,000 in the middle to the QJ5Q turn, Barend Jacobs bet 1,000 and Peter Sissou called. Jacobs then bet the 10 river for 3,500 and Sissou more said to himself "ace king?" before folding.

"Did you have a jack?" Jacobs asked back and Sissou nodded.

First Pot to Ramnundlall

Nivel 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

Banks Solomons was not involved in the action as he was instantly high-carded to a third table. On his former table, three-way action to the AQ7 flop was checked through. Peter Sissou checked the 5 turn and Teren Ramnundlall bet 500 from the big blind. Ivan Jarosz folded, as did Sissou for Ramnundlall to win the pot.

Welcome to the 2025 SunBet Poker Tour Time Square Main Event

Sugen Singh Wins the SPT Time Square Main Event
Sugen Singh Wins the SPT Time Square Main Event

South Africa's richest poker tour gears up for another busy year as the SunBet Poker Tour returns to Time Square in Pretoria for the first live poker festival in 2025. The series already kicked off on February 28 and will run until March 9, with the ZAR 4 Million guaranteed ($217,580) Main Event taking the centre stage.

Four starting days are available throughout the next three days with many notables of the close-knit South African poker community expected to enter the fray. As usual, the poker series takes place in cooperation between Sun International - the leading entertainment operator of South Africa - and the Monster Jam Poker Tour.

In 2024, this very tournament saw two editions at Time Square with Sugen Singh as the defending champion in a field of 418 entries. His victory was followed up by the triumph of Harold Brooks two months later, when yet another deal was struck. Both are expected to return to the tables and try to win another SPT trophy.

The first three starting days will feature a total of 15 levels of 50 minutes maximum, or until the top 15% of the field are reached - whichever of the two options comes first. In previous editions, the action concluded prior to the maximum number of levels. Only the top 12.5% of the field are paid, however, which makes for a tense affair early on Day 2 on March 8 when all survivors of the Day 1 flights return to their seats.

All players start with 40,000 in chips and the opening level features blinds of 100-200 with a big blind ante of 200. This gives everyone 200 big blinds in the opening level and unlimited re-entries are allowed for the first nine levels. The late registration officially closes at the start of level ten.

Day 1a kicks off at noon local time and tomorrow's second flight mirrors the exact same schedule. Day 1c then follows one hour earlier and the final turbo heat runs on March 7 with a reduce level duration of 30 minutes during the registration period and 15 minutes thereafter.

Stay tuned for more of the banter-filled live poker action here in South Africa with many of the SunBet live satellite winners set to join the action today.
