Hartland showed his 10♣8♣ for a missed flush and Van Huyssteen had the A♠K♥ for ace-high. Moore was ahead all the way with 4♣4♦ and rivered a set for the triple up.

With 26,000 in the middle to the Q♣8♦7♣ flop, Rudolf Fourie was all-in for 111,500 and looked up by table neighbour Yogesh Jeebaun who flipped over the 8♠7♠ for the bottom two pair.

The Q♥ turn improved Fourie to trips and he started a little happy dance even before the 5♥ river completed the board.

Moments later, Eben Lottering was at risk with 3♣3♦ for around 55,000 and looked up by Braam Van Huyssteen with the dominating Q♥Q♠.

The superior pair reigned supreme throughout the 5♦2♦2♣A♥5♥ board to reduce the field to the last 16 contenders.

The multi-way flop of 9♦6♥4♥ was checked before Yogesh Jeebaun bet the 6♦ turn for 11,000 in the small blind. It folded to Keenan Pienaar and he raised to 33,000 for Jeebaun to call.

Jeebaun then check-folded the A♠ river to a bet of around 50,000.

Soon after, Gilbert Tin Fook raise-folded to the shove of Rudolf Fourie.

"Just ask him what my hand is," Fourie told Tin Fook after the latter had exposed the Q♣10♣. He referred to Harold Brooks, who instantly said "ace king," which was exactly what Fourie showed by revealing A♠K♦.

Shortly after, Pienaar chipped up even further when he got some value out of Divan Vyn Wyk on a board of K♣10♥8♥J♥A♣. His Q♥9♥ was the nuts with a queen-high straight flush and Van Wyk mucked the K♠10♠.

While the last two tables of the Main Event Day 1a are ongoing, six players were on their feet on the live-streamed final table in the ZAR 50,000 High Roller. Only five of them were paid and Kinesh Pather was all-in against Ronit Chamani with both players holding nearly the same stack.

Pather's J♦J♣ were up against A♣K♦ and Chamani flopped best on A♠6♦4♠. The 9♥ turn and 8♥ river changed nothing and the bubble burst. Payouts and chip counts of the final five contenders will be provided later on in the Day 1a recap. Max Deveson will be the shortest stack coming back but has more than 50 big blinds at his disposal.

Three ways to the A♣7♥2♣ flop, Yogesh Jeebaun raised to 12,000 and was called by Gilbert Tin Fook in the small blind and Divan Van Wyk from the under-the-gun position. The A♦ turn was checked to Jeebaun, who bet 30,000 and earned a call by Van Wyk only. Both then checked the 6♥ on the river and Van Wyk revealed his 9♥9♣ first, which was beaten by the A♠J♣ of Jeebaun.
