Stefan Van Huyssteen bet what appeared to be 35,000 on the Q♦8♦2♥8♣Q♣ river and Keenan Pienaar called to get shown the A♥A♠. He briefly flashed his K♣K♠ and then added "he either has aces or ace-queen".
In a preflop all-in, Eben Lottering needed to hold with J♦J♠ against the K♣Q♣ of Ben Geldenhuys. However, the latter nailed the 6♣5♣3♣ flop and Lottering now needed running cards to a full house.
It was all over with the 9♠ turn to make the 4♠ river a formality.
Corel Snyman bet the 7♠5♣4♥Q♦ turn for 5,500 and called a raise to 12,000 by Chad Moolman. He then checked the K♣ on the river and Moolman bet 15,000. Snyman called all-in for 14,500 and Moolman instantly said "you win" even before Snyman revealed his A♦A♥.
The cards of Moolman were never shown and he sighed "it was either a snap call or a snap fold". Snyman insisted that he would have had to call on any river card.
After all was over, Moolman was left on a shorter stack and busted soon after.
On the river of a A♦7♥2♦K♠7♠ board, Yogesh Jeebaun bet 5,500 and Jaco Mouton called with a shorter stack behind. Jeebaun revealed the 5♦3♣ for a missed wheel draw and Mouton earned the pot holding the A♥3♥ for aces and sevens.
Farisani Khosa raised to 1,400 and Gilbert Tin Fook in the small blind called out of turn when Benjamin "Guppie" Lingenfelder had not acted yet on the button. Lingenfelder then three-bet to 6,200 and Tin Fook called, Khosa folded.
On the A♦8♠5♠ flop, Tin Fook check-called for 4,000 and jammed the 9♣ turn, Lingenfelder snap-called.
Benjamin Lingenfelder: 7♠6♠
Gilbert Tin Fook: 7♦6♥
Both had the nut straight but Lingenfelder held outs to improve, which he missed with the 5♣ river.
The Day 1a field is up to 54 entries with some 41 players remaining. Roy Bitton and Braam Van Huyssteen entered for the first time. Chad Moolman and Hennie Appel reentered, the latter getting back to his old table but on a different seat.
Gilbert Tin Fook check-jammed the K♦J♦2♣Q♣ turn and Steven Radloff called all-in with the K♣7♣ for the top pair and turned flush draw. Tin Fook was ahead with the 10♥9♦ for the bottom end of the straight and the 9♠ river didn't change anything.
Radloff re-entered and had to draw between three different cards, picking the exact same seat.
"Now I have chips, keep them warm," he joked to old and new table neighbour Tin Fook.
Multi ways to the J♣4♥2♠6♣ turn, Jonathan Hoal raised from 3,000 to 6,000 and behind him, Alexandre Blanc then jammed with a short stack of 15,200. It folded back to Hoal and he called with the 4♣4♦ for a set of fours.
Blanc was at risk with 2♣2♥ and missed the one out by a single card in the deck on the 3♦ river.
