The 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Paradise, which is taking place on Paradise Island in The Bahamas, got off to a big start with the $500,000 buy-in Triton Million, which marked the WSOP's first partnership with Triton Poker.
It was a unique tournament that paired an invitee with a poker pro – each putting up a $500,000 buy-in – and then competing in respective fields on Day 1 before combining on Day 2. The tournament, which was being live reported by PokerNews, featured 74 players (37 pairs) and much to our surprise saw two players get their chips all in on the very first hand of the tournament.
It was a big hand, but just one captured by the PokerNews Live Reporting Team. Here is a look at five other either big or game-changing hands from the Triton Million.
Vadzim Lipauka got his pair of sevens in the middle against the top pair of Darius Samual, hitting a set on the turn for a big double up.
Samual then opened to 2,000,000 on the very next hand, committing almost all of his remaining stack. Trevor McMichael raised in middle position and Samual called.
Darius Samual: A♥K♥
Trevor McMichael: A♦3♦
Both players found help on the K♦9♦5♥ flop, with Samual hitting top pair and McMichael picking up flush outs. The 6♣ turn and 8♥ river were clean for Samual, earning the double up through McMichael.

The action folded to Derric Haynie on the button who shoved all in for 6,400,000 after previously doubling up from just a couple of big blinds. Liv Boeree called from the small blind and Mustapha Kanit folded his big blind.
Derric Haynie: A♠9♠
Liv Boeree: 5♠5♦
It was a coin flip and the flop of Q♠Q♣6♣ left Boeree in the lead with two pair. The 10♣ on the turn changed nothing as neither player held a club in their hand. However, it was the 9♣ on the river that gave Haynie a better two pair in order to survive again.

Ren Lin opened to 2,000,000 from under the gun and Christopher Nguyen three-bet to 6,500,000 on the button and Vladimir Minko cold four-bet jammed a stack of 13,000,000 from the big blind. Lin folded and Nguyen called.
Vladimir Minko: A♣Q♣
Christopher Nguyen: A♥K♥
Minko was pipped and nothing changed as the board ran out 9♥10♠2♦10♦6♥ to mark his elimination.

Matthew Belcher opened to 2,000,000 in the cutoff and Chris Moneymaker tossed in a call on the button. Pablo Melogno slid in calling chips in the small blind before Derric Haynie committed his short stack of less than one big blind.
Haynie was at risk four-way and watched the action check through the 8♠5♣A♦ flop. All three players checked again after seeing the 10♥ turn, with no more betting following the A♣ river.
Moneymaker showed 3♠3♦ to claim the small side pot. Haynie smiled as he tabled 8♦2♦, good enough to stay alive and quadruple his short stack.

At the outer feature table, Derric Haynie opened to 2,000,000 in early position. Liv Boeree was next to act and shipped all in for 12,475,000. Chris Moneymaker asked for a count from the big blind but decided to fold. Haynie quickly called and the cards were tabled.
Liv Boeree: A♠10♣
Derric Haynie: K♠K♣
Boeree closed her eyes in meditation for the brief moment before the cards were dealt and asked for her one time. The dealer fanned the flop of A♥Q♦J♠ and Boeree's eyes opened wide for the ace in the window. The 8♥ and J♦ runout were clean and Boeree scored a double-up.
Meanwhile on the outer table, Matthias Eibinger was all-in with A♦J♣ but was up against the K♣K♦ of Sirzat Hissou. A king on the flop left Eibinger drawing slim and he was unable to catch up.

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is wrapping up 2024 down in The Bahamas with WSOP Paradise, but they’re already looking ahead to the New Year by announcing the dates for the 56th Annual WSOP in Las Vegas.
For the fourth consecutive year, the summer WSOP will take place at the Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas. The series will run from May 27 to July 16, 2025, while the $10,000 Main Event will start on July 2 with the final table taking place between July 15-16 inside the Horseshoe Events Center.
“Each year allows us to refine further and improve the WSOP offering, and 2025 will be no exception,” WSOP CEO Ty Stewart said in a press release. “Expect the biggest poker events on the planet, the best action, and the most intense competition as we once again welcome tens of thousands of poker enthusiasts eager to experience the magic of the WSOP.”
Roland Rokita raised it up from under the gun and Matthias Eibinger stuck in a three-bet from the big blind. Rokita called and they went heads-up to a flop of K♣10♣5♥ with around 11,000,000 already in the middle.
Eibinger led out with a bet of 3,800,000 and Roikita called to see the 9♦ on the turn. Eibinger announced all in and Rokita snap-called with a stack of 14,575,000. Eibinger turned over A♠A♥ but Rokita flopped a set with 10♠10♥. The river was the 5♣ and Rokita improved to a full house for a massive double-up.
