Kenny Nguyen is Day 1 Chipleader in Record Field

Nivel 10 : 400/800, 100 ante

Day 1 of Event 18, $1,500 No Limit Hold’em, set the WSOP record for the single largest field ever in a $1,500 event, breaking the record set in 2007 by six players. Kenny Nguyen is your Day 1 chipleader with 110,600, followed by Jon Lane, Stewart Stone and David Briedes - all breaking the 100,000 mark.

Surviving the day was an accomplishment itself; the field averaged five bustouts every minute. The 490 remaining players will make the push for the money bubble, which is set at 324 players. First place is worth $735,400 alone and just making the final table is a guaranteed $54,936.

Notable players moving on to Day 2 include Erick Lindgren, Erica Schoenberg, Scotty Nguyen, Jean Robert Bellande, Frank Kassela, Christian Harder, Dwyte Pilgrim, Humberto Brenes and Jon Turner.

Plenty of notable players failed to last the day including Tom Dwan, David Benyamine, Michael Mizrachi, Joe Cada, Jason Mercier, the NBA’s Paul Pierce, Alexander Kravchenko, Andrew Lichtenberger and Eric Baldwin.
Play will resume at 2:30 p.m. PST in the Orange section of the Amazon Room. Follow PokerNews for all the WSOP action.

Mizrachi Eliminated

Nivel 10 : 400/800, 100 ante

We found this hand developing on the turn with a board of {2-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {9-Clubs} {4-Clubs} and David Briedes moving all in. Michael Mizrachi called and tabled {K-Spades} {9-Hearts} and Briedes turned over {Q-Hearts} {J-Clubs}. Mizrachi was drawing to a king or a nine for his tournament life. He bricked when the river fell {4-Spades}. Briedes is around the 100,000 mark.

Where Did All Those Chips Go?

Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi was cruising during the pre-dinner session, but since then has had a nightmare run, until he managed to triple up in a massive three-way all-in situation over on table 43.

David Briedis raised to 2,000 from under the gun, only to see the player in the UTG +1 position re-raise all-in for about 14,000. The action folded to Mizrachi in late position, who begrudgingly slapped his last 2,800 into the middle. All the others got out of the way and Briedis snap-called.

Briedis: {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}
UTG +1: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Mizrachi: {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}

Incredibly, Mizrachi caught a runner-runner full house on the board of {3-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{5-Spades}{6-Spades}{6-Clubs} to triple up! Briedis, however, picked up more than enough chips in the sidepot and sent the other opponent to the rail.

It's still hard to believe where all of Mizrachi's chips went, but we have a feeling that some of them might have ended up in Briedis' stack, as he's now holding over 75,000 in chips!

Brenes Down, but Not Out

We found Humberto Brenes in the middle of a hand firing out a bet of 8,000 at his opponent on a board of {8-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}, his opponent made the call.

The turn brought the {2-Clubs} and a check from Brenes. Humberto's opponent was not going to check-down and put out a bet of 12,000. Humberto tanked for awhile before eventually folding.

A Note on the Scale of Today's Field

Nivel 10 : 400/800, 100 ante

The 3,157 entrants we had at the start of the day were spread across the entirety of the Pavilion Room, save for a few cash game tables, and two full sections of the Amazon Room. Tournament officials have been breaking tables at a record pace today, moving some players up to four times.

Now the field has been reduced to only the Black section and 15 tables in the White section in the Pavilion Room. The board reads only 650 players remaining. It is likely that once play ends all the Day 1 surviving players will be in just the Black section.
