Benyamine Draws First Blood

Nivel 1 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

In the opening hand of his match with Anthony Guetti, David Benyamine saw a flop of {Q-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{Q-Clubs} and led out for 2,700 chips. Guetti raised to 6,300 and after some thought, Benyamine made the call. The {2-Clubs} on the turn brought a bet of 8,500 chips from Guetti and after more deliberation, Benyamine called. After the {K-Hearts} fell on the river, Guetti slowed down and checked, provoking a bet of 18,500 from Benyamine. When Guetti called, the Frenchman said "Queen," showed his {Q-Spades}{9-Diamonds} for trips and scooped a pot of nearly 70,000 chips.

Enter a Half-Clothed Gus

Nivel 1 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

With his shirt open and flapping in the Amazon Room air conditioning, Gus Hansen has just joined Daniel Alaei for their match.

Over on table Paredes/Juanda, John Juanda asked if he had the option to wait for his opponent to show up. The floor staff told him that the dealer had to "deal" two hands per minute, and that the blinds would have to be picked away from David Paredes' stack. With 300,000-chip starting stacks and 600/1,200 blinds, that doesn't sound too imperative, but the clock is ticking fast with these quick levels and the quick structure.

John Juanda waits for David Paredes
John Juanda waits for David Paredes

We're stuck at 30 players in the room as two matches have yet to get going. John Juanda (who was involved in a bit of a skirmish yesterday with James Bord) is still waiting for David Paredes to show up, and Gus Hansen is also AWOL. Daniel Alaei is the one waiting for Mr. Hansen, and both he and Paredes are being blinded off at the rate of one blind per minute.
