Ladies First Today
Welcome back to the Rio! We are very excited to bring you one of the most unique events in the whole World Series, Event #53: $1,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold'em Championship. The ladies are taking their seats shortly, and the cards will be in the air in about 30 minutes.
We are expecting a big field for this one, as last year's event got 1054 players. Vanessa Hellebuyck emerged on top of the field to take home $192,132. Other well known players who made the money included Evelyn Ng, Linda Johnson, 2008 Ladies Champ Svetlana Gromenkova, Mimi Tran, and Liv Boree, amongst others.
As always with this event, we will be sure to keep an eye out for....well men. Every year there are a few men who decide to dress like a woman to sneak into the event. Last year, Shaun Deeb was the most notable of these, though he clarified early on that he lost a prop bet and was donating any winnings to charity.
