Workin' the Nub

Nivel 8 : 200/400, 50 ante
Gavin Smith
Gavin Smith

Earlier today we recorded Gavin Smith's chip count as 850. In fact, Birdguts managed to get even lower, dropping down to 175 chips.

But that was before he found himself on a massive heater, tripling up once with {j-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} against {j-}{j-} and {a-}{10-} by making a straight and finding a couple more key double ups.

Smith is now sitting on 13k and back in the game.

Always a Sweat

Nivel 8 : 200/400, 50 ante

Ben Grise got his stack of 3,250 in before the flop and Dan Healey made the call.

Grise needed help with his {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} as Grise had the {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}.

The cards ran out {k-Clubs}{4-Spades}{4-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}. Flopped quads for Grise, but both agreed that the case {7-Hearts} would have been a sick river.

“Never easy. Flop quads and it’s still a sweat,” Grise said.

“OK, no more whining,” Healey joked.

Duhamel Defends

Nivel 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

Jonathan Duhamel defended his blind for a min-raise to 600.

Both players checked the flop of {5-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}. On the turn card {2-Clubs}, Duhamel put out 600. His opponent picked up the calling chips, clearly not believing Duhamel had it. Then his opponent put them back in his stack, deciding not to tangle after all.

Pot to the Director

Nivel 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

As reported, film director and keen amateur poker player, Frank Coraci, is playing today and told us that he had a tough table with two or three pros. We witnessed him face off in a hand against David "Bakes" Baker.

Coraci opened for 650 and Baker made the call. That made it heads up to a flop of {3-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{k-Spades}.

Baker checked and a continuation bet of 1,300 from Coraci got a fold from Baker who said he really thought he was going to get him with that hand, asking him to show a king. Coraci obliged and showed him the {q-Diamonds}.

Laak Out of Luck

Nivel 7 : 150/300, 25 ante

Cory Waaland opened for 800 and Phil Laak, sitting to his left, moved all in for 4,800. It folded back around to Waaland who made the call.

Laak had the slight lead with {a-}{10-}, but Waaland had a bunch more chips and the {k-}{q-}.

The flop was {10-}{q-}{6-} and no help came on the turn or river for Laak and his six-max was over.
