Steven Hensley
Steven Hensley

Start of day chip leader Steven Hensley has starting building again.

He got a call from both blinds after making it 3,600 to see a flop. That flop fell {8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and when it checked to him, he fired again, making it 8k to see another card. Only the small blind obliged and off to the turn they went.

The dealer burned and turned the {8-Spades} which brought checks from both players. But when the {2-Clubs} river fell and the small blind fired out 12,500, Hensely snap-called with {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}.

It was good enough to take the pot and help Hensely crest the 200k mark.

Mercier Hates the River, Busts

Nivel 13 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

Jason Mercier opened for 3,200 in first position and Luis Campelo, seated to his left, raised him to 7,300. The blinds folded and it was back on Mercier who had by far the smaller stack.

He flicked his cards to peek at them three or four times before announcing all in. Campelo weighed it up and made the call, giving a slight wince when he saw his {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} was up against the {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades} of Mercier.

The board ran out {6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. Mercier tossed his cards away in disbelief. He flopped a set of kings, but as Hellmuth would no doubt say, the turn and river were perfect-perfect for Campelo to give him the straight and send Mercier out.

Yankee Doodle Dandy

Amnon Filippi
Amnon Filippi

Amnon Filippi just became a contender for this six-max crown courtesy of what has to be considered a cooler.

We caught the action post-river with Filippi all in for his tournament life and final 35,400 on a {3-Spades}{8-Hearts}{a-Spades}{10-Spades}{a-Diamonds} board. His heads-up opponent, one Jerrimie Pacheco, counted out and made the call with {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}, but his trips were no good.

Filippi held {a-Hearts}{k-Spades} and after late-registering and nursing a middling stack for most of the day Monday, he now has a sizable stack for the first time in this event.

Barbour Takes a Hit

Nivel 13 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Natasha Barbour
Natasha Barbour

Russell Thomas opened the betting, and from the small blind Natasha Barbour three-bet him. The action moved back to Thomas who moved all in and was snapped off by Barbour who quickly tabled {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}. Thomas showed the {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}.

The board ran out {3-Hearts}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{5-Clubs}, and Thomas's nines held. Barbour had him covered but it was a big dent to her stack, while Thomas got a timely double-up.

Meanwhile at the same table Todd Anderson, former Heartland Poker Tour co-founder and one of the names involved in “Poker Night in America,” has amassed a pretty decent stack.

The Immense Mr. Immekus

Nicholas Immekus
Nicholas Immekus

Nicholas Immekus is now the overwhelming chip leader having picked up the right hands at the right time here on Day 2.

First he managed to pick up queens with two players all-in in front of him and that held, then he cracked aces to bust another player turning a pair of eights into a set on the river.

The winner of one of the larger deepstacks events at the 2014 Borgata Winter Poker Open is now well on his way to besting his career-best score of $99,144 which he collected there.
