Mercier Sent to the Rail

Nivel 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

We noticed the seat formerly occupied by Jason Mercier was vacated, and a quick check with Ed Brogdan confirmed that the South Florida native had been eliminated.

As Brogdan told it, Mercier got his last 9,500 or so all in preflop holding {j-}{10-} against an opponent's {a-}{q-}. The board ran out clean and that was all she wrote for Mercier.

Jones Adds to His Stack

Nivel 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Gnatenko Oleksander was first to act from his seat on the button and he raised to 2,400. The small blind ducked out of the way, but Aaron Jones defended his big blind.

Jones check-called a 2,600 continuation bet on a {9-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} flop, then led out for 6,000 when the {9-Diamonds} was placed on the turn. Oleksander quickly released his hand and Jones won the pot.

"Nice River"

Nivel 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

We caught the action as Will Failla (cutoff) had called a raise of what looked like 25,000 from Jean-Pascal Savard in the big blind.

Despite the huge pot created preflop, the action postflop was not as exciting as both players checked down the {J-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{6-Spades} board. Savard bet 20,000 on the arrival of the {A-Diamonds} river and Failla quickly folded.

"Nice river," said Failla, but Savard refused to confirm or deny if the river had helped him and he mucked his hand.

A short while later, Failla claimed to have "had the board beaten until the river" and later still that he held pocket queens.

Hutter Continues to Roll

Nivel 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Barry Hutter began the day as the chip leader, and while others have closed the gap and even surpassed him, he shown no signs of slowing down.

In a recent hand, a player got his stack of 30,000 or so all in preflop holding the {a-Spades}{q-Spades} and was up against Hutter's {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}. The {3-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop kept Hutter in the lead, and the {10-Diamonds} turn actually locked him up the hand with a full house. The {J-Hearts} was put out on the river for good measure, and Hutter stacked the pot while continuing to receive a massage.

Chattha Shoves on Three Players

Nivel 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Alex Queen had raised to 2,500 from middle position and Alan Snow and Matthew Haugen both called in the next two seats along. The UK's Sunny Chattha was next to act in the cutoff and he announced that he was all-in.

It was a play that worked for Chattha because his three opponents folded in turn, leaving him to add to his stack.

Serock KO'd by Kirsch

Nivel 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Joe Serock
Joe Serock

Action exploded between Richard Kirsch and Joe Serock on a {k-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} that resulted in the latter getting his stack of 35,000 or so all in. Kirsch had snap-called.

Serock: {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Kirsch: {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

Serock was up out of his chair even before seeing his opponent's cards, but as the cards sat Serock had the best hand. However, Kirsch had a flush draw to go with his aces. The {A-Hearts} turn improved both players to trips, but Serock's kicker had him out in front. That is when the dealer burned one last time and put out the {q-Diamonds}.

Kirsch spiked his flush to knock out Serock, who was gracious enough to slide his chips over to the victor.

Armstrong Steals a Pot

Nivel 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Nick Rampone checked from the big blind on a {J-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop and Rep Porter was next to act from his under the gun seat. Porter bet 4,600 and Richard Woodhall folded.

Jamie Armstrong was seated in the cutoff and he pumped up the price to play to 12,500, which prompted a fold from Rampone. Porter stared at Armstrong for a few seconds before mucking his hand, leaving Armstrong to scoop the pot.
