On a flop of {J-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{3-Spades} we found Ryan Schmidt all in for his last 177,000 against Kory Kilpatrick.

Schmidt: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{2-Spades}
Kilpatrick: {10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs}

The turn and river landed the {4-Spades} and {10-Spades} and Schmidt doubled through to over 360,000.

Watson Exits in 21st Place

Mike Watson
Mike Watson

Just before the break, Mike Watson got his last 70,000 or so all in on a {6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop against Sorel Mizzi.

Watson: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}{k-Clubs}{5-Hearts}
Mizzi: {6-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Watson got it in good with aces, but then the dealer burned and turned the {8-Spades} to give Mizzi the nuts as leave Watson drawing dead. Watson stood and wished Mizzi good luck, not even paying attention to the meaningless {4-Diamonds} on the river.

Brunca Finds Double

Nivel 18 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Joseph Leung entered the pot with a raise to 12,000 only to have Fernando Brunca three-bet to 42,000 from the small blind. Leung made the call to see a {J-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop with Brunca open-shoving his last 37,000 and Leung calling.

Brunca: {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Leung: {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades}

With Brunca trailing, the {9-Diamonds} on the turn saw him complete his gutshot straight as the {2-Spades} fell on the river to ensure the Brazilian the double to roughly 160,000 in chips.

The 1998 WSOP Main Event Champ Falls

Nivel 18 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Scotty Nguyen
Scotty Nguyen

"Payout," we heard a dealer call. We then witnessed 1998 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Scotty Nguyen get up and head toward the payout desk.

By the time we reached the table the dealer had swiped the cards, but David "Bakes" Baker was kind enough to fill us in on some details. As he explained it, Demis Hassabis had raised from the button and Nguyen defended from the big blind.

The {8-}{7-}{3-} flop saw both players check, and then the dealer burned and turned a {9-}. A raising war broke out that resulted in Nguyen getting his chips in with straight and flush draws, which he needed to hit to overcome the {j-}{10-}{q-}{4-} nut straight of Hassabis.

That didn't happen though as the river blanked to send Nguyen to the rail in 24th place for $16,888. Meanwhile, Matthew Greenwood followed him out the door in 23rd place after being eliminated in unknown action.

Laak Bets River and Wins

Phil Laak
Phil Laak

Phil Laak opened the cutoff to 12,000 and both Joseph Leung and Phil Galfond called from the blinds before the {Q-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs} flop was checked through.

The turn of the {A-Diamonds} saw Leung lead for 25,000 with both Galfond and Laak calling as the {J-Clubs} completed the board on the river.

Leung and Galfond both checked before Laak bet out 62,500 to force eventual folds from Leung and Galfond.

Laak is now up to a little over 570,000 in chips.

"Raise the Maximum"

Nivel 18 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Action folded to Mathieu Jacqmin on the button and he raised to 15,000.

"Can he even make it that much?" the jovial Phil Laak asked from the big blind. Indeed he could, and the man nicknamed "The Unabomber" paid the additional 8,000 to see the flop, which came out {8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}.

Laak checked, Jacqmin bet 23,000, and Laak looked directly at the dealer. "Raise the maximum," he said, making it 102,000 to go.

Jacqmin didn't seem to like it and he thought for about 40 seconds before releasing his hand.
