Ivey Hits the Rail

Nivel 8 : 500/1,000, 0 ante

We arrived at the table on the turn, with Phil Ivey all in and at risk against John Bao. The board read {3-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and the two player's cards were face up.

Ivey: {k-Spades}{q-Spades}
Bao: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}

Ivey was behind but had some outs to win the hand on the river. He needed the ace of clubs or one of the three non-diamond nines to win the hand. Any diamond would chop the pot. The river brought the {6-Clubs} and Ivey would be eliminated.

Wheeler Stays Alive; Abou Risk Crushing

Nivel 7 : 400/800, 0 ante

A player in early position raised, Nick Abou Risk called from late position, Brent Wheeler called all-in, and the player in the small blind called as well.

The dealer laid out a flop reading {7-Clubs}{5-Spades}{a-Diamonds}. The player in the small blind checked, the early position raiser bet, Abou Risk raised, and the player in the big blind and the early position raiser made the call.

The {8-Clubs} hit on the turn and all three players checke to the {7-Diamonds} on the river. All three players checked again, Abou Risk turned over {a-Spades}{10-Spades} to claim the side pot, and Wheeler tabled {6-}{4-} for a turned straight and took down the main pot to stay alive.

Monnette Flushed

Nivel 7 : 400/800, 0 ante

John Monnette raised from the button and was called by the big blind. The flop came {9-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} and the player in the big blind checked. Monnette bet and his opponent check-raised. Monnette made the call. The player in the big blind would lead out on both the {4-Hearts} turn and {K-Spades} river and Monnette would call both times. Monnette's opponent tabled {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for the turned nut flush and Monnette mucked.
