Kihara Slips

Nivel 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Naoya Kihara
Naoya Kihara

With a middle-position raise to 2,500 and a cutoff call in front of him, Naoya Kihara three-bet to 11,000 from the big blind. Only the player in the cutoff called to see the {5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop.

Kihara continued for 10,500, his opponent called and the {2-Spades} landed on the turn. This time Kihara check-called 15,200, landing the {3-Hearts} river to the board. Both players checked and Kihara tabled {8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} for treys and deuces.

His opponent, though, tabled {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} to win the pot.

Shahin Over 300K

Nivel 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Munir Shahin from Millbrae, California began his Day 2 with 27,925 in chips. He's since worked his way to nearly 11 times that amount, as he sits with a tad over 300,000 in his stack.

Just recently checking in on Shahin, he was in the small blind with a raise to 2,000 from middle position and a reraise from the button to 5,400 as the action in front of him. Shahin reraised to 14,900, and everyone folded.

As if to let everyone at the table know he wasn't just messing around with the big stack, Shahin showed the {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}.

Aoki Looking to Replicate Her Ladies Event Run

Mikiyo Aoki at the Ladies Event final table

Mikiyo Aoki was a virtual unknown in the poker world a few weeks ago. Her only recorded tournament cash was a third-place finish in a local Las Vegas casino for $2,109. She changed that with a second-place finish in the WSOP Ladies Event a few weeks ago, adding $94,800 to her bankroll. Aoki is looking to turn that into something even bigger here and recently took down a pot that moved her stack upwards of the 100,000-chip mark.

We got to her table with 37,000 in the pot and Aoki made a bet of 15,000. The flop showed {A-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{5-Hearts} and her opponent folded. Aoki, who started the day with just 27,000 in chips, would sit with 138,000 after the hand.

Rystadt on a Massive Rush

Nivel 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Curtis Rystadt has been at Table 2 all day, so it was much to our surprise when we noticed him sitting with more than 340,000 before a recent pot.

A player in early position bet 5,000 on an {8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{8-Clubs} flop, and Rystadt raised to 11,000. The small blind cold-called, and the bettor folded. On the {7-Spades} turn, the small blind checked and Rystadt bet 12,500. His opponent tanked for a while before folding.

"You play a hand with me, I'm gonna make you play for your whole stack," Rystadt said with conviction.

According to David Bach, Rystadt was down to about 5,000 early in the day before doubling with {a-}{8-} against {k-}{k-}. Since then, the cards have clearly continued to fall Rystadt's way, as he's built up a monster stack.

Vamplew Sets Finger Trap

Nivel 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

David Vamplew and Martin Finger had a decent staring contest over a recent pot. They played heads-up on a flop of {3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and Vamplew was the first to act. He bet 2,800.

Finger called and they saw the {q-Spades} turn. After some staring, Vamplew check-called 6,700 from Finger and then checked the river {q-Clubs}.

Finger checked and avoided the trap as Vamplew turned over {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}.

Johnson in the Depths

Nivel 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

With the board reading {k-Spades}{5-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} on fourth street, Aaron Johnson was in a blind-versus-button battle and check-called 6,000. On the {4-Spades} river, Johnson checked again and his opponent bet 10,000. Johnson thought for a couple of minutes before tossing out a call, but he was shown {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for two pair and mucked.
