Broom Sweeps Up the ANZPT Perth Chip Lead

Nivel 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

The Australia New Zealand Poker Tour continued to take centre stage on Friday at Crown Perth in Western Australia, with Day 2 action of the ANZPT Perth Main Event keeping the attention of the local poker scene.

At the beginning of the day there were 108 hopefuls who hoped to start making their way toward the 24 money-paying positions and into the Day 3 line up. By the time it was all over, only 33 remained and it was James Broom who led the way.Broom's 317,300-chip stack will see him best pressed to burst into the money on Day 3 and in a good position to make it through to the final table.

Throughout the day we lost many well-known players from around the region, and around the world. Included in the casualties were both remaining Team PokerStars Pros Bryan Huang and Angel Guillen, while Michael Guzzardi, Monica Eastick, Melanie Weisner and the chip leader from the start of the day Jessie McKenzie also hit the rail.

Towards the end of the night there were several players in contention to finish up as the chip leader, but alas, only one could bag up the most chips and this time that player was prominent Australian poker pro James Broom. Close on Broom's heels are the likes of Pawel Zawadowicz, Kent Hunter and Iori Yogo.

Plenty of other notable players will join Broom in contention for the title including Ricky Kroesen, Dale Marsland, Ivan Zalac, Emanuel Seal and David Gorr. Be sure to check out all the end-of-day 2 chip counts and the Day 3 seating draw below.

Tomorrow will see the 35 remaining players become just a final table of nine. Make sure to join us from 12.30 as we once again bring you all the action of the ANZPT Perth Main Event!

Could There Be a New Chip Leader?

Nivel 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Some major carnage to end the day as Kent Hunter has stormed into chip leader calculations after a massive three-way all-in clash.

It started with the short-stacked Melanie Weisner moving all in. John Dichiera re-raised before Kent Hunter cold four-bet to 50,000. Action folded back to Dichiera who declared himself all in, covering his opponent. Hunter thought for a bit before committing his last chips.

Weisner: {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Dichiera: {A-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Hunter: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}

Dichiera had got a tad aggressive with his ace-jack as Hunter put his faith in the ladies. The flop was {6-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and Weisner sprung to life as she started calling for a nine. The {5-Spades} turn was another good card for Weisner as she was now open-ended for a triple up. But the river bricked the {2-Spades} to see Weisner out, Dichiera severely dented, as Hunter takes over the chip lead with a stack close to 300,000.

Stay tuned to find out if Hunter ends up as the chip leader!

No Luck for McKenzie

Nivel 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Jesse McKenzie started the day with far more than what the current average chip stack is, but has failed to make it through to Day 3.

McKenzie had a rough start here on Day 2 and never really recovered. His final hand began when he opened with {5-}{5-} and Emanuel Seal defended out of the blinds. On the {k-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-Spades} flop, Seal checked and McKenzie led for 3,600. Seal check-jammed here and McKenzie called off his last 25,000 in chips.

Seal held {k-}{3-Spades} and McKenzie seemingly had to worry about the spades. However it was actually a {6-} turn and a {7-} turn gave Seal a straight and McKenzie was sent home.

Woe for Weisner

Nivel 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

A min-raise to 4,000 from the Melanie Weisner was met with resistance from the blinds as both defended to see a flop of {8-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{7-Spades}. Action checked around and the turn brought a repeat {Q-Spades}. Action checked to the big blind who led out for 7,500. Weisner made the call and the {7-Hearts} double-paired the board.

The big blind fired again for 18,500 and Weisner was pained by the decision. After some friendly banter, Weisner looked under the table to see if her opponent was shaking. Not sure what she saw under there, but it was enough for her to make the call.

Her opponent opened {q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for the full house to take it down and leave Weisner with around eight big blinds.

Lane Wins a Few More

Nivel 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

John Lane has increased his chip lead yet again, now sitting with a monster 280,000-chip stack. Lane recently raked in another pot when he put a player to a decision on the turn of a {3-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} board. After tanking for a long time, Lane's opponent folded and Lane added to his seemingly ever-growing stack. It is looking more likely by the minute that Lane will finish tonight as the chip leader.

Broom Gaining Some Momentum

Nivel 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

James Broom is starting to gain a bit of momentum late here on Day 2. We recently arrived at Broom's table to find him and Ivan Zalac on the river of a {8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} board. There was already around 40,000 in the pot at this point and Broom took his time before betting 26,500. Zalac instantly folded and Broom raked in the handy little pot.
