Volpe Regains the Chip Lead

Nivel 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Paul Volpe
Paul Volpe

David Kitai led out for 8,500 on a flop of {4-Spades}{9-Spades}{7-Spades}. Paul Volpe, who started the day with the chip lead, made the call, and the turn brought a repeat four - the {4-Diamonds}.

Kitai reached for chips, then eventually fired 12,500. Volpe quickly called.

The river was a third four - the {4-Clubs} - and Kitai slowed down, checking for the first time. Volpe reached for blue T5,000 chips, added a few black T100 chips, then tossed forward a bet while simultaneously announcing, "Twenty-seven two."

Kitai looked at the 27,200-chip bet, then turned his attention Volpe. Volpe sat silently, with his right hand capping his cards and his left hand shuffling a handful of chips. Kitai continued to stare at his opponent, breaking his gaze only to count his own chips, then finally folded.

Ghatge Gets Some

Nivel 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Michel Dattani opened to 2,500 on the button, and both Frederik Jensen (small blind) and Pratik Ghatge (big blind) called. The flop fell {6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}, both blinds checked, and Dattani continued for 5,000. Both blinds called.

The turn was the {7-Diamonds}, Jensen checked again, and Ghatge fired 11,500. Dattani laid it down, Jensen called, and the {7-Hearts} completed the board.

Jensen checked a third time, Ghatge tossed out 18,000, and Jensen tank-folded.

Crossed Fingers

Nivel 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Former EPT winner Martin Finger had moved in on the turn of a {8-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} board with {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} against Kamal Choraria but the latter called with {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}. The river was the {4-Clubs} and the German was another early casualty on Day 2 of the High Roller.

Mercier Runs Kings into Aces

Nivel 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Jason Mercier on Day 1
Jason Mercier on Day 1

It's been a surprisingly short day for Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier. He'd bet 26,300 on the turn of a {7-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} board against Dimitar Danchev, the Romanian raised him all in and Mercier obligingly called.

Danchev: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}
Mercier: {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

The river was the {J-Diamonds} and Mercier shrugged as he was eliminated.

Joao Barbosa opened to 2,500 from early position, Byron Kaverman three-bet all in for 24,600 from middle position, and Ike Haxton called out of the small blind. Barbosa quickly folded, and the hands were tabled.

Kaverman: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Haxton: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

The kings held as the board rolled out {9-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}, and Kaverman doubled.
