Día 1e completado
The fifth of eight starting flights has concluded in the PokerStars Estrellas Poker Tour (ESPT) Main Event and, as expected, it was the biggest yet. By the time late registration closed, 1,755 players had joined Day 1e — bringing the total number of entrants up to 3,539 (so far) for the kickoff event of the 2024 PokerStars European Poker Tour.
Following 17 levels of play, Karol Bogusz emerged as the chip leader of the remaining 262 players after bagging up 835,000 in chips, which is good for the third spot overall through five starting flights. In a distant second is Raoul Kanme, who ended with 683,000, and rounding out the top three is Brazilian pro Nicolas Coppini with 660,000.

There were no lack of notables among the sea of players that filled up two separate tournament rooms as play got underway, including PokerStars ambassadors Benjamin Spragg and Julien Brecard.
While Brecard got off to a hot start, Spragg was unable to build much momentum and ultimately busted after running ace-king into Cyril Beudou's pocket kings shortly after dinner break. Brecard, on the other hand, was fortunate enough to add to his stack and ending up bagging 204,000.
Defending champion Lucien Cohen joined the field about half way through the day and managed to double his stack, but ultimately fell late in the day after getting his set cracked in a large pot.
The always amicable Ren Lin joined the fray just before late-registration ended and he quickly went to work by doubling through Mark Roovers with ace-king. Lin's active and unpredictable style saw him go from over 300,000 all the way down to just 18,000 as the money bubble neared. At that point, Lin began shoving preflop with a variety of less-than-stellar hands to great success and quickly grew his chip stack. Lin even managed to double up through Daniel Rezaei on the last hand of the day to vault his stack to 460,000 — more than double the average.
The money bubble burst, ending play for the day, after Uri Gilboa and Ezio Ottaviani were eliminated on different tables on the stone bubble. Gilboa ended up losing a race with pocket threes, while Ottaviani had his queens cracked by the jack-nine of Nicolas Coppini. The exact amount of a min-cash will be calculated after all starting flights have been completed.
Some other players who managed to a bag include Ami Barer (494,000), Wim Verhaegen (244,000), Alex Keating (142,000) and Jari Mahonen (114,000). They will be joined by notables from other flights who have already secured a spot into Day 2, including Marle Spragg (488,000), Jesse Lonis (434,000), Barny Boatman (300,000), Shiina Okamoto (249,000), Robin Ylitalo (200,000), and Maria Konnikova (75,000) to name a few.
All players who have yet to secure a Day-2 berth still have two starting flights left. The penultimate flight, Day 1g, is scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 29 at 11 a.m. local time. The eighth and final flight will take place on the same day at 5 p.m. and will feature a turbo-like schedule with 20-minute levels.

The remaining 262 players are now bagging and tagging for the evening.
Stay tuned for a recap of Day 1e.
Guy Cicconi opened 18,000 in early position and Uri Gilboa slammed his 58,000 across the line on the button as he stood up from his chair. The blinds quickly folded, and Cicconi gave it some thought as he said, "I don't want to bust you, you've been so nice."
Gilboa responded with, "I want to play tomorrow. I don't want to bring 50,000 through."
Cicconi wasn't convinced, as he replied with "I'll bet anyone 10 to1 he has aces," but still made the call.
Uri Gilboa: 3♣3♥
Guy Cicconi: K♠Q♠
It was a race, but the Q♣10♣5♦ flop paired Cicconi to take the lead with a pair of queens. The Q♦ turn and 4♥ river improved him to trips queens to eliminate Gilboa on the stone bubble.
At another table:
Nicolas Coppini opened 16,000 in early position and called Ezio Ottaviani's jam worth 56,000.
Ezio Ottaviani: Q♣Q♦
Nicolas Coppini: J♦9♣
Ottaviani was in great shape as Coppini didn't even have an overcard, and the Q♠10♥5♦ flop improved him to top set but also gave Coppini an open-ended straight draw. The K♣ fell on the turn, completing the straight for Coppini, and Ottaviani couldn't pair the board as the A♠ landed on the river.

Daniel Rezaei open-jammed the small blind as the covering stack and Ren Lin called all-in for 218,000 to put himself at risk.
Ren Lin: A♣6♣
Daniel Rezaei: K♦4♠
The flop was a great one for Lin as it came A♥J♦8♣. Rezaei was drawing dead on the J♣ turn and the J♥ river was just a formality as Lin found a massive double on the stone bubble.

Ren Lin has been on self-admitted mission to become the bubble boy. Since losing a large pot to Daniel Rezaei, Lin has been moving all-in preflop in several hands as the money bubble nears.
In a recent hand, Rezaei opened to 12,000 from early position and just behind him, Lin shoved for approxmately 150,000. It was folded back to Rezaei, who tanked for some time before Lin offered to pay him $100 to call.
Rezaei declined the offer and folded, prompting Lin to table Kx8x.
A while later Lin shoved from early position and said, "Please let me be bubble boy!" Everyone folded and Lin turned over five-four off suit as he collected the pot.

Andrea Melluzzo opened 55,000 in early position and only Antonio Ingrassia made the call from a few spots to his left.
The dealer spread a flop of A♥5♥2♥, and Melluzzo check-called his last 1,000.
Andrea Melluzzo: Q♣Q♦
Antonio Ingrassia: Q♠Q♥
The good news for Melluzzo was he wasn't behind, but the bad news was he could only lose the hand or chop against the flush draw of Ingrassia. Luckily for him, the 9♣ turn and 10♠ river changed nothing as they split the pot.

Sebastian Ulmer opened 14,000 in the cutoff and Zdravko Lamot called on the button.
The dealer spread a flop of 7♦7♠5♦, and Ulmer announced a bet of 12,000. Lamot called so quickly that his chips were in the pot before Ulmer had got his bet across the line.
The 2♦ fell on the turn, and Ulmer slowed down with a check and Lamot fired 12,000. This time Ulmer made the call.
When the 6♦ completed the board on the river, Ulmer flung 25,000 across the line. Lamot made the call, saving 20,000 chips behind as he rolled K♦J♦ for a turned flush. Ulmer mucked his hand.

On a completed board of 9♥7♦6♦K♥K♦, Anders Karlson led out for just 6,000 into a pot of around 60,000 from the big blind.
In middle position, Emilio Izvira contemplated for a while before he put in a raise to 65,000, which sent Karlson into the tank. After over three minutes of thinking, he finally flicked in the call and he got the bad news immediately as Izvira rolled over A♦4♦ for the nut flush.
The players are now just five spots away from the money.
