Brian Rast Wins Inaugural $500,000 Super High Roller Bowl for $7,525,000

Nivel 23 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante
Brian Rast - Champion

The inaugural $500,000 Super High Roller Bowl started with 43 entrants, but on Sunday just seven players, who had each locked up a part of the $21.5 million prize pool, returned to battle down to a winner. It took the better part of 10 hours, but in the end it was Brian Rast who walked away with the $7.525 million first-place prize and a championship ring.

In doing so, Rast, who was recently the subject of a PokerNews feature story, notched the fourth seven-figure score of his career. His first came in 2011 when he won the World Series of Poker $50,000 Poker Players' Championship for $1,720,328, and then a year later he took sixth in the inaugural Big One for ONE DROP for $1,621,333. More recently, he took home $1,083,500 for winning the World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic High Roller in December 2013. Obviously this was his biggest score by a large margin, and vaults him into 11th place on the all-time money list.

It took awhile for things to heat up at the final table, but on Hand #39, which took place in Level 18 (30,000/60,000/10,000), Scott Seiver raised to 150,000 from the hijack and Erik Seidel three-bet shoved from the cutoff for 870,000. Seiver called.

Seiver: {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}
Seidel: {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}

The flop came down {A-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}, giving Seidel the lead with aces and queens. However, the {7-Diamonds} turn fell to give Seiver a set of sevens. The river was the {6-Hearts}, no help to Seidel, ending his tournament in seventh place for $860,000.

Tom Marchese was the next to go. First he was crippled after running Big Slick into the pocket kings of Timofey "Trueteller" Kuznetsov, and on the very next hand got it in with the {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and was up against the {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts} of David Peters. The board ran out {3-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{q-Spades}{k-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} and that was all she wrote for Marchese.

Not long after, the cards turned against Peters and he watched his chips dispersed around the table. Eventually he shoved his last 1.255 million holding the {a-Clubs}{6-Spades} only to run into the {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades} of Connor Drinan. The board ran out {2-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{q-Hearts} and Peters took his leave in fifth place.

After the dinner break, Kuznetsov hit the rail when he flopped top pair only to run into Seiver's set of nines, and then three-handed play stretched on until pocket eights wreaked havoc twice within five hands. The first saw Seiver use them to crack Rast's kings and double, and then Rast found them to crack queens and send Drinan to the rail in third place.

Seiver began heads-up play with a 2-1 chip lead over Rast, but one big hand saw the stacks flip. Then on Hand #173 of the final table, which took place in Level 23 (80,000/160,000/20,000), the two ended up flipping for the title when Seiver got his stack all in preflop holding the {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds} against the {a-Spades}{9-Spades} of Rast. The {9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{q-Hearts} flop gave Rast the lead, and he held onto it as the {K-Diamonds} blanked on the turn followed by the {6-Diamonds} on the river.

Scott Seiver Eliminated in 2nd Place ($5,160,000)

Nivel 23 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante
Scott Seiver - 2nd Place
Scott Seiver - 2nd Place

Hand #169: Scott Seiver raised to 380,000 from the button, Brian Rast called, and the flop came {10-Spades}{8-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. Rast bet 380,000, Seiver called, and the {3-Clubs} was put out on the turn. Rast checked, as did Seiver, and the the river was put out (unfortunately we didn't catch it as the camera cut away too quick). Rast bet 600,000 and Seiver folded.

Hand #170: Seiver received a walk.

Hand #171: Seiver raised to 380,000, Rast called, and the flop fell {9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}. Rast checked, Seiver bet 400,000, and Rast gave it up.

Hand #172: Seiver received another walk.

Hand #173: Seiver raised to 380,000 from the button, Rast reraised to 1.04 million from the big blind, and Seiver moved all in. Rast double checked his cards, stood up, and asked the dealer to pull in the chips. Seiver's shove was 4.26 million more, and Rast called it.

Rast: {a-Spades}{9-Spades}
Seiver: {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}

It was a flip, and Seiver was looking to hold to score the double. That proved easier said than done though as the flop came down {9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{q-Hearts} to pair Rast. The {K-Diamonds} turn was no help to Seiver, and neither was the {6-Diamonds} river. Seiver gave Rast a hug, congratulated him, and then took his leave from the tournament in second place for $5,160,000.

They checked to the turn of a {4-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} board where Rast bet 260,000. Seiver called, the {5-Diamonds} river completed the board and Rast checked. Seiver bet 780,000 and after a few moments, Rast folded.

Seiver called, the dealer burned and turned the {5-Spades}, and Rast bet 1.4 million. Seiver wasted little time in making the call and the {3-Spades} completed the board on the river.

Rast slowed down with a check, and Seiver tanked before moving all in. Rast called off for 3.36 million holding {a-}{k-Spades}. It was good as Seiver rapped the table and sent his hand to the muck.
