Día 2 completado

Day 2 Complete: 28 Remain with Merrifield On Top

[user68268] • Nivel 20: 5,000-10,000, 1,000 ante

Day 2 of Event #28: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em is in the books. Play began a tad after 4:00 PM PT yesterday and after another long ten levels of poker were played, just 28 players are still in contention for the gold bracelet. Leading them all is Steven Merrifield with 1.025 million in chips.

After 349 players returned for Day 2, the eliminations came rapidly right through the money bubble. Some of those who finished in the money, but failed to make it through the day included Randal Flowers (48th), Martin Kabrhel (76th), Ty Reiman (94th), Eugene Todd (104th), Michael Katz (127th) and Brent Hanks (247th). All of them earned some return on their investment, but none will able to capture the gold in this event.

Still remaining are Andy Frankenberger, Jacobo Fernandez, Mickey Petersen, Matt Graham and Tyler Kenney. That's some pretty big firepower that remains from a massive starting field of 2,500 players.

Play will start back up again Saturday at 4:00 PM PT. The plan is to play through another ten levels or until a champion is crowned. We're guessing it's going to be ten levels and then need a fourth day, but don't hold us to that. Whatever happens, you can bet that PokerNews will be right there to provide it for you.

In the video below, Lynn "The All-In Kangaroo" Gilmartin and Kristy "The Poker Ninja" Arnett recap all the highlights and champions from the third week of the 42nd Annual World Series of Poker. Believe us when we say that it's worth watching until the last few seconds...

We'll see you all tomorrow, and again, thanks for following along!

Nguyen Wins One

From under the gun, Tyler Kenney raised to 22,000. Thao Nguyen made it 60,000 from the big blind and Kenney made the call. The flop came {7-Spades}{9-Clubs}{10-Spades} and Nguyen continued out for 60,000. Kenney made the call and the turn paired the board with the {10-Diamonds}. Nguyen moved all in for 422,000 and Kenney sent his cards into the muck.

So Close

• Nivel 20: 5,000-10,000, 1,000 ante

Tournament Officials have just announced that there will only be four more hands played tonight.

Bonding Doubles Twice

[user196676] • Nivel 20: 5,000-10,000, 1,000 ante

After suffering a huge hit about twenty minutes ago, Lars Bonding got his stack all in against Stephen Falcon. Bonding held {6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} against Falcon's {K-Spades}{J-Spades}.

Fortunately for Bonding, the board fell {Q-}{4-}{2-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds} and he was able to double up to 63,000.

Immediately after, Bonding was able to get it all in against Falcon once more. This time Falcon held {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs} against Bonding's {A-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

Bonding was once again able to come from behind, flopping a set when the board came {10-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{10-}{5-}{7-}.

Lars Bonding now sits at 136,000 thanks to the double double-up's from Stephen Falcon.

Thompson Bluffs Into Aces

[user196676] • Nivel 20: 5,000-10,000, 1,000 ante

On a flop of {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs} Robert Thompson led out for 29,000. Karl Johansson made the call. The turn brought the {K-Spades} and Thompson fired out once more. This time the magic number was 42,000. Johansson made the call once again and we were off to see a river.

Fifth street came {2-Hearts} and Thompson announced he was all in. Johansson snap called, tabling {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}. Thompson showed his bluff that didn't seem to work, tabling {10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. Johansson is now sitting pretty with around 485,000 in chips.

Million Chip Merrifield

Steven Merrifield has become our first player to breach the million-chip mark. He currently sits with about 1,050,000 after a preflop all in encounter with Lars Bonding.

Bonding: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}
Merrifield: {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}

The board came {10-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and Merrifield was able to double up. This was a huge hit to Lars Bonding, who was once one of our chip leaders.

Lucky Evans

It was the battle of the blinds as James Lee in the small blind raised preflop, and Joshua Evans in the big blind moved all in. Lee called fairly quickly and flipped over {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}, Joshua Evans had {A-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and was going to need some assistance to stay in this tournament.

The dealer put out five cards and they came {8-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} giving Evans trip aces and enough to double.

James Lee us 110,000 72,200
