Final Break of the Night

Nivel 8 : 300/600, 0 ante

Level eight has ended and the players sent on their final break of the night. When they return they will play two more levels before bagging up their chips and heading into the warm Las Vegas night.

Ivey Chipping Up

Nivel 8 : 300/600, 0 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

A player raised from early position to 1,200 and Phil Ivey made the call from late position. The flop came down {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{2-Hearts} and Ivey's opponent bet 1,200. Ivey put in a raise to 3,600 and his opponent folded.

Ivey has two more levels tonight to try to run it up to something a little more comfortable.

Shankar Pillai
Shankar Pillai

Shankar Pillai won a WSOP bracelet in 2007 when he took down the $3,000 No Limit Hold'em event for a cool $527,829. Since then, Pillai has accumulated an additional nine WSOP cashes and is on course for a tenth here in Event #12.

As we head towards the final break of the day and with 117 players remaining, Pillai is one of the biggest stacks in the room with 57,000 chips.

No Action For Rettenmaier's Kings

Nivel 8 : 300/600, 0 ante
Marvin Rettenmaier
Marvin Rettenmaier

Two-time World Poker Tour champion Marvin Rettenmaier plays a wide range of hands preflop and as a result often gets paid off handsomely when he has a legitimate big hand.

That wasn't the case a short while ago because when the action folded to Rettenmaier on the button, he made a raise to 1,200 and must have been praying for either of the blinds to defend. But both blinds folded, leaving Rettenmaier to show his {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} and pick up the 900 chips from the pot.

Havin' a Devil of a Time

Nivel 8 : 300/600, 0 ante

We didn't witness the hands, but David "Devilfish" Ulliott informed us that his stack has taken a couple of recent hits, as his big slick lost to pocket nines and his {a-}{a-} was cracked by {k-}{q-}.

He's now going to have to properly nurse his small stack, as he now has less than ten big blinds.

Kelly is on the Grind

Nivel 8 : 300/600, 0 ante

At the 2013 WSOP, Dan Kelly cashed eight times for combined winnings of $465,934. Fast forward to this year and Kelly has cashed once in 12 events, a ninth place finish in the $10,000 Fixed Limit Omaha Hi-Low Championship that netted him $41,595.

He bought in late for this tournament and has managed to improve his 4,500 stack to 6,300, but still has plenty of work to do if he is to add a second in-the-money finish at the 2014 WSOP.

Woods Doubles, Then is the Doubler

Nivel 8 : 300/600, 0 ante
James Woods
James Woods

James Woods opened to 1,500 from late position and Paul Varano three-bet to 4,500 from the big blind. Woods potted, putting him all in for 11,000 and Varano made the call. It was the {j-Clubs}{j-Spades} of Varano versus the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} of Woods and the board ran out {8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{k-Spades}{5-Clubs}{9-Hearts} for the double.

On the very next hand, however, Woods would give back approximately 8,000 as his pocket queens were picked off by the {6-Spades}{2-Diamonds} of his opponent in the big blind, after getting it in on a {6-}{7-}{6-} flop. Woods couldn't find any help on the turn or river and his opponent doubled.
