Event #22: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship

Tommy Hang Leads Stacked Field as 21 Remain

Nivel 20

Tommy Hang

High-stakes cash game regular Tommy Hang leads the way, as 21 players remain going into the final day of play in Event #22: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship. Randy Ohel's in second place, followed by Richard Ashby, who finished second in the $10,000 Omaha Hi/Lo earlier this series.

Hang will be gunning for his first bracelet, while others who've tasted the gold before, including Ohel, Justin Bonomo, Max Pescatori, Nick Schulman, Bruno Fitoussi, Daniel Negreanu and Bertrand Grospellier, are still in the hunt.

In a field this stacked, there are always lots of high-profile casualties and today was no different. Right off the bat, we lost last year's $50,000 Players' Championship runner-up Don Nguyen, and he was followed by Owais Ahmed, 2014 Seniors Championship winner Dan Heimiller, and Barry Greenstein. Phil Ivey was also among those to hit the rail and David Chiu, Erik Lindgren, and Phil Laak did not last that much longer, either.

Michael Mizrachi and Vladimir Shchemelev were among the chip leaders for a while, but ultimately did not manage to make it into the money.

Midway through the day, the speed of the tournament picked up, but as the money neared nobody wanted to put any more unnecessary chips into the pot.

Right before the bubble, we lost Frank Kassela, Bryn Kenney, Sergey Rybachenko, and Pat Pezzin. With 26 players left, Jeff Lisando and Jeff Madsen were eliminated during the same hand on different tables and the money was reached with just 40 minutes left to play.

In the final minutes of the day, three more players hit the rail as Chris Klodnicki (24th - $18,254), Greg Mueller (23rd - $18,254), and Tom Koral (21st - $18,254) headed out the door.

Play will resume tomorrow at 2 p.m. local time and we will play down to a winner, or at least that's the plan. Make sure to tune back in with PokerNews.com as we will bring you all the live updates, chip counts, and videos of this top-notch event.

Massive Scoop for Bonomo

Stud 8

Randy Ohel completed and Christopher Wallace, Justin Bonomo and David Benyamine called before fourth street was checked through. Ohel led on fifth and Wallace called before Bonomo raised and Benyamine folded. Ohel and Wallace called before Bonomo bet sixth and seventh with Ohel and Wallace calling down.

Ohel: {X-}{X-} / {3-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds} / {X-}
Wallace: {X-}{X-} / {2-Spades}{8-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Hearts} / {X-}
Bonomo: {X-}{X-} / {6-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} / {X-}
Benyamine: {X-}{X-} / {2-Hearts}{6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} (folded on fifth)

Bonomo tabled his {A-Spades}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for an eight-high straight and a six-five low to scoop the pot and soar to over 300,000 in chips.

Benyamine Cripples Mueller

Nivel 20

Stud

Benyamine: {x-}{x-} / {2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs} / {x-}
Mueller: {x-}{x-} / {A-Spades}{10-Hearts}{J-Spades}{6-Spades} / {x-}

Picking up with the action on fifth street, David Benyamine fired out a bet and Greg Mueller called. Benyamine led out again on sixth and Mueller once again moved forward a tower of chips for a call.

The two looked at their seventh street cards and Benyamine bet one final time. Mueller called and Benyamine rolled over {K-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts} for trip deuces. Mueller nodded his head in recognition and showed {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} for kings and jacks before mucking his cards. He's now down to just 50,000 while Benyamine has soared to 420,000.

Ashby: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} / {8-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{6-Hearts} / {A-Diamonds}

Calvin Anderson was the bring it and it folded around to Chris Klodnicki who put out a raise. Richard Ashby called from the next seat over and it folded back to Anderson who folded as well. Ashby led out on fourth street and Klodnicki flatted to see fifth. Ashby bet once more and Klodnicki raised all in for an additional 8,000. Ashby called and rolled over his tens in the hole, which were ahead of Klodnicki's pair of eights.

Klodnicki found no help on the next two streets and became the first casualty in the money. He'll collect $18,254 in tournament winnings. Ashby, on the other hand, now sits on 390,000 in chips.

Jeff Madsen Bubbles in 25th Place

Nivel 20
Jeff Madsen
Jeff Madsen

Stud

With jut 10,000 in chips left, Jeff Madsen was all in against Greg Mueller and David Benyamine. Here's how it all went down that saw Madsen end as the tournament's bubble boy.

Benyamine: {X-}{X-} / {3-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}fold
Mueller: {K-Spades}{9-Spades} / {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{5-Spades}{Q-Clubs} / {7-Hearts}
Madsen: {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} / {J-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{6-Hearts} / {7-Spades}

Benyamine was the bring-in and Mueller completed the bet. Madsen called all in for 10,000, and Benyamine also called. After both active players checked on fourth street, Mueller bet out Benyamine on fifth.

When the cards were opened, Madsen was behind Mueller's pair of fives. Mueller caught two pair on the end, leaving Madsen drawing dead. The hand resulted in Madsen being the bubble boy for this event, and all remaining 24 players moved into the money.
