Ziemba Four-Bets Scalzi

Nivel 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

From middle position, Mike Ziemba raised to 1,800. Antonio Scalzi reraised to 3,900 from the cutoff seat, and action folded back to Ziemba. He four-bet to 11,000, and Scalzi tank-folded.

Nivel 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Schulman Slips a Bit

Nivel 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Nick Schulman raised to 1,700 in early position, Paul Key called on his left, a player on the button called, and Robert Varkonyi defended his big blind. The dealer fanned {j-Spades}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades}, the action checked to Key, and he bet 2,500. Only Schulman called.

The turn was the {5-Spades}, Schulman check-called another 4,500, and the {6-Diamonds} completed the board.

Schulman checked, Key fired a third and final bullet worth 8,500, and Schulman folded.

Jorgensen Sets Up Calenzo

Nivel 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Theo Jorgensen opened for 2,000 from middle position and received a call from Kevin Calenzo, who was seated to his direct left. The rest of the field folded and it was heads-up action to the {4-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} flop, which they both checked. The action repeated itself on the {A-Diamonds} turn, and then the {6-Hearts} completed the board on the river.

Jorgensen took the opportunity to bet 6,000, and Calenzo didn't take too long before making the call. "Set," Jorgensen stated and tabled the {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for a rivered set. Calenzo seemed flabbergasted and then arched his cards to the muck.

From the cutoff seat, Bryan Micon raised to 1,600. In the next seat, on the button, was the chip leader Phil Ivey, and he reraised to 5,100. Play folded back to Micon, he gave it up, and Ivey won the pot.

"Nice hand, Phil," commented Danny Johnson from across the table.

Brar Topping Tan Section

Nivel 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Jaspal Brar currently has the biggest stack in the Tan section of the Amazon Room with north of 300,000.

In one recent pot, he barreled down a board of {2-Spades}{6-Hearts}{a-Spades}{8-Hearts}{q-Spades} against a player in the small blind, who called bets of 2,200, 4,600, and then 5,700. Brar tossed {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} into the middle, and his opponent knuckled the table before sending his cards to the muck.

Freerolling Remond Lee

Nivel 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Hailing from the United Kingdom, Redmond Lee, an online cash game player who goes by “LOLUFOLD”, has had some decent tournament success. He finished in 21st place in the Main Event back in 2010 for $317,161.

Lee was involved in a three-way pot on a flop of {10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and had bet 4,000. The player to his left called and another player moved all in for 12,000. Lee tanked before raising enough to cover the player to his left; he called.

Lee was on a flush draw with {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, the player to his left had two pair {10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} and the player who shoved had hit a set with {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}. Lee had a chance to knock two players out but the turn {q-Hearts} and river {k-Spades} didn’t bring his diamond. He did make a profit on the hand, though, from the other all-in player. He smiled as another player remarked on the hand, “Freeroll.”

Classic Cooler Sends 2009 Main Event Champ to the Rail

Nivel 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Joe Cada
Joe Cada

Back in 2009, Joe Cada topped a field of 6,494 players to win this very event for $8,547,042. Cada, who became the first player to follow up his Main Event win by capturing a bracelet since Carlos Mortensen (something he did this summer when he won Event #32: $10,000 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold'em Championship for $670,041), was hoping for another superb showing, but his hopes were just crushed in a most-classic of coolers.

It happened over at one of the secondary feature tables when a player opened for 1,800 and Dennis Longoria called. Cada then three-bet to 5,500, the original raiser called, and Longoria sprung to life with a four-bet to 20,100.

Cada thought long and hard before moving all in for 55,000 or so, and action was back on the original raiser. He tanked for a long time before releasing what turned out to be pocket queens. Longoria then snap-called with {a-}{a-}. Unfortunately for Cada, his {k-}{k-} was crushed and he failed to find help. It's worth noting though the board contained a queen, so things could have played out very differently for Longoria.

As it was, he eliminated Cada and increased his stack to 165,000.

Joe CadaBusted the old classic way KK < AA. Good luck to all the good guys still in.
