Pierce Nails the Trey

Nivel 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Paul Pierce
Paul Pierce

Paul Pierce three bet a preflop open and a player in late position four-bet shoved. The original raiser moved out of the way and Pierce had his chips in the middle before the cards were in the muck.

Pierce: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Opponent: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}

It wasn't yet known which player was at risk as both had very similar stacks. The dealer fanned out a {3-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{9-Hearts} which led to a fist-pump from Pierce. The turn and river fell --{5-Spades}{k-Diamonds}-- Pierce's three kings were best and the dealer began to count out his stack.

After the count, Pierce had 900 chips fewer than his opponent and was pushed the double up.

Just before the hand played out, former NBA player Earl Barron walked up to Pierce to tell him the news of Barron's recent departure from the Main Event.

Barron was crippled just earlier when his {A-}{K-} got run down by an opponent's {a-}{Q-} and a few hands later got {A-}{10-} in against {a-}{q-}. Barron had flopped best with the {9-}{10-}{j-} flop but the turn was a {q-} and Barron's quest was halted.

Riess Promises to Last

Nivel 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

The cameras are trained on Ryan Riess just in case he busts the tournament, and from the table next to his Chris Moneymaker was teasing Riess that the cameramen are getting bored. If it were him, Moneymaker said, he have bust by now and they could go home.

“They’re going to be here all day,” Riess told him.

“That’s a great attitude,” Moneymaker conceded

Barry Greenstein Eliminated

Down to just 27,800 in chips, Barry Greenstein moved all in first to act with {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. He would have the bad timing to run into {A-Clubs}{A-Spades} and despite picking up a diamond flush draw on the turn, Greenstein would be eliminated when the board ran out {10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}. He shook hands with his opponent and headed quietly out of the Amazon Room.

Siffledeen Shoves on Juanda

Nivel 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

We caught the action when the dealer put {Q-Spades}{9-Hearts}{K-Hearts} on the flop and Quentin Siffledeen checked from early position. John Juanda, on the button, bet 18,000 and Siffledeen called.

The turn brought the {3-Diamonds} and Siffledeen checked again, after which Juanda bet 52,000.

"All in," Siffledeen snapped back at Juanda as soon as his bet hit the felt.

Juanda looked back down at his cards and slowly he pushed them into the muck.

"Huuuuge hand," Siffledeen smiled as he raked in the pot.

"I knew you had a big hand, but I didn't think you would go all in," Juanda replied as he's now down to below six figures.

McLellan Four-Bets All

Nivel 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Duncan McLellan had opened the action with a bet of 5,700 and got a caller two seats to his left before it got to the big blind who raised to 13,400. This seems to be a spot McLellan relishes and he had no hesitation in moving all in. The player who called him let out a little cry of annoyance and shot McLellan an angry look but he wasn’t fazed.

Ashton Done and Dusted

Nivel 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Matthew Ashton, who won last year's $50,000 Poker Players' Championship, is no more. Ashton managed to work his stack up to 240,000 here on Day 3, but ended up giving most of it to Konstantin Puchkov.

First, he shoved holding the {4-Clubs}{5-Clubs} on {2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{7-Clubs} flop against two opponents, but bricked out and saw the 420,000 slip his grasp. Then he got it on holding the {k-Clubs}{j-} on a {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} flop against Puchkov's {a-}{10-}. The turn and river both blanked, and that was all she wrote for Ashton, who cashed just one of the 13 events he played this summer (he took 107th in Event #14: $1,500 Limit Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better for $2,657.
