Amid the hustle and bustle of the Spanish capital’s main thoroughfare, a new group of players gather inside the Casino Gran Via today hoping to take their shot at the title on Day 1b of the €888 888poker Live Madrid Main Event.
The second of four starting flights begins at 3 p.m. local time. Players begin with a 50,000 starting stack and will play 11 40-minute levels. There is a break after every three levels and a 45-minute dinner break at the end of Level 9, which should come around 9:30 p.m. Unlimited reentries are allowed, with late registration open until the start of Day 2.
The opening flight yesterday attracted 58 entries, with 28 players already securing their tickets into Day 2. Two players who made the final table last year set themselves up for another deep run by finishing in the top two spots on the leaderboard. Borja Diaz bagged the chip lead with 231,000, while defending champion Manuel Ledesma is close behind with 222,000.

Galanti bet 400 on the 10♠8♠3♥ flop and Perazzi called. The turn was the 7♣ and Galanti bet another 1,200. Perazzi again called.
Both players checked down the 8♦ river and Galanti showed J♦J♥ to win the early pot.

The turn was the A♥ and De Montlivault bet another 600. The small blind folded this time, but the big blind raised to 2,000. De Montlivault called and the 8♣ fell on the river.
Action checked to De Montlivault who bet 6,500. The big blind quickly called and De Montlivault showed A♦8♠ for a rivered full house. His opponent said he had ace-five as he mucked.

Both players checked the 6♣6♥A♦ flop. Mengouchi then bet 2,500 on the A♥ turn and Perazzi called.
The river was the 7♠ and Mengouchi bet 6,000. Perazzi quickly called and Mengouchi showed K♣5♦ for a bluff. Perazzi turned over 9♠9♣ as he took the pot.

Mourad Mengouchi continued his aggressive play, opening to 1,200 in the hijack as Alexandre Mantovani on the button and Francesco Galanti in the small blind called.
The flop came 7♠6♣3♥ and Mengouchi bet 3,000. Only Mantovani called to see the Q♣ turn, where Mengouchi fired out 6,300. Mantovani quickly folded and Mengouchi recouped some of his chips.

Heads-up on a board of 5♣2♣J♥3♦, Carlos Diaz bet 2,000 from the big blind and Stefan Cupic called on the button.
The river was the Q♦ and Diaz led out for another 5,000. Cupic spent nearly a minute considering the decision before flicking in a chip to call as Diaz turned over J♣2♦ for two pair.
"Jack-deuce, huh," Cupic said as he mucked.
"Big blind," Diaz replied.
