Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.
In the 15th episode, Connor speaks with statistician Nate Silver about his new book On the Edge: The Art of Risking Everything, election forecasting, founding and leaving FiveThirtyEight, his bad beats at feature tables, and co-hosting the Risky Business podcast with Maria Konnikova.
Silver also discusses the upcoming US presidential election, sports analytics, Limit Hold'em, his Silver Bulletin newsletter and why no one should be a nit in life.
This interview was filmed on June 8.
In a heads-up pot on a board of 5♣10♦Q♦7♥, Michel Karim checked from middle position and Stanislovas Vinicenka bet 100,000 in the hijack. Karim called.
Karim checked again on the 4♦ river and Vinicenka took some time before sliding out a bet of 200,000. Karim went in the tank before putting out a stack for a call.
Vinicenka showed 10♥10♣ for a set of tens and Karim mucked in defeat.

Robin Ylitalo raised to 25,000 in the hijack and Juliane Papazian called on the button. Edgar Ishida then three-bet to 140,000 in the big blind and Ylitalo moved all in. Papazian folded, while Ishida called for his last 250,000.
Edgar Ishida: A♥Q♠
Robin Ylitalo: 9♦9♣
Ishida was racing for his tournament life but fell far behind on the K♠9♥8♠ flop as Ylitalo hit a set. The board ran out 5♥A♣ and the ace on the river couldn't help Ishida avoid elimination as Ylitalo added to his massive stack.
"How much did you start the day with," Parker Talbot, who had only just arrived at the table, asked Ylitalo.
"200K. He's knocked out seven people," another tablemate added.
"I haven't been running good, either. I've just been crushing," Ylitalo added.
Fabiano Kovalski is also seated at this table.

Stephen Song opened to 25,000 first-to-act and found one caller in Cristiano Ferreira in the small blind.
Ferreira check-called a 15,000 bet from Song on the A♠8♠A♦ flop and a 50,000 bet from Song on the J♦ turn.
However, Ferreira check-folded facing a shove from Song on the 3♥ river, which was enough to put Ferreira all in for his remaining 145,000 and Song was sent the pot.

Domenico Paparo raised to 40,000 in middle position, Louis Jeannin moved all in on the button, and Paparo called for 120,000.
Domenico Paparo: Q♦Q♣

Paparo had Jeannin dominated heading to the flop, but Jeannin hit a set on 10♦6♥3♣ to take the lead. The rest of the board ran out 9♠9♦ and Jeannin improved to a full house to send Paparo to the rail.
Another tablemate told Jeannin he folded a ten before the flop. "One outer," he said.
