King Dan Thriving at Secondary Feature Table

Nivel 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Dan Smith
Dan Smith

Over at one of the secondary feature tables there was 150,000 or so in the pot and a board reading {4-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades} when Chad Eveslage checked from early position and Dan Smith bet 65,000 from the cutoff. Eveslage made the call and then checked once again on the {2-Spades} river. Smith bet 300,000, which had Eveslage's remaining stack of 191,000 covered.

Eveslage thought for nearly two minutes before releasing his hand, and Smith was pushed the pot. After the hand there was some discussion, and Eveslage revealed what he had folded.

"I had {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}," he said. "I was so excited on the flop."

With the action on Zachary Hirst in the cutoff, he could four-bet to 255,000 to force two quick folds from Finstein and Raviv before Makushevski went into the tank.

Several minutes went by before Makushevski released and Hirst was pushed the pot.

On the final board of {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}, Brian Hastings had an over-bet of 400,000 out in front of him. Marius Pospiech tanked for a bit and then called, but couldn't beat the {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} that Hastings showed for a set of eights.

Cichy Doubles Through Yunis

Nivel 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Action folded to Matt Waxman on the button, and he min-raised to 32,000. Hunter Cichy moved all in from the small blind for 280,000, and Nick Yunis called from the big blind. Waxman folded.

Yunis tabled the {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}, and it was a flip against Cichy's {K-Spades}{10-Spades}.

Cichy took the lead on the {10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{5-Clubs} flop before making two pair on the {K-Hearts} turn card. The river was the {9-Clubs}, and Cichy had successfully doubled up to 634,000 in chips. Yunis was left with 2.04 million.

Erlichman Sends Alvarado Packing

Nivel 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Ricardo Alvarado raised to 35,000 from middle position only to have Gal Erlichman make it 86,000 to go from late position. Action folded back around to Alvarado and he four-bet shipped for 431,000 total. Erlichman called and the hands were turned over.

Alvarado: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}
Erlichman: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}

The two were in a classic race scenario for Alvarado's tournament life. The flop came down {2-Spades}{J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, keeping the two ladies out in front. The {7-Clubs} dropped down on fourth street and Alvarado was one card away from a double and continued life in the Main Event. Unfortunately for Alvarado, the hope of staying alive quickly disappeared as the {K-Diamonds} completed the board. Erlichman paired kings and send Alvarado to the payout desk.

Five-Bet Fun

Nivel 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

John Gorsuch raised to 32,000 in the cutoff, Gabriel Paul three-bet to 88,000 out of the small blind, and Nicholas Nardello cold four-bet to 182,000 out of the big blind.

Gorsuch made it five bets, reraising to 282,000, and Paul called out of the small blind. Nardello folded and the flop fell {k-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}. Both players checked.

The turn was the {k-Spades}, the two checked again, and the {4-Spades} completed the board. Paul checked, Gorsuch tossed out a small bet of 105,000, and Paul folded.

"Jacks?" Paul asked Gorsuch after the hand as they racked their chips (the table was breaking.

"Ace-king," Gorsuch told him.

Eyster Ousted

Nivel 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Kevin Eyster, pictured in an earlier event.
Kevin Eyster, pictured in an earlier event.

Roland Israelashvili raised to 32,000 from middle position, and Jason Johnson made the call in the cutoff. Kevin Eyster shipped from the button, putting the squeeze on Israelashvili, who folded, but Johnson quickly called.

Johnson: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Eyster: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}

Eyster had a slight lead, but it became a big deficit on the {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop, giving Johnson top two. A {k-Diamonds} turn brought even more grim news, as Eyster was down to one out, and the {2-Diamonds} river gave Johnson the nuts.

"Good luck, boys," Eyster said as he grabbed his backpack.

Johnson, a Michigan native, has already had plenty of luck and skill at the 2014 World Series of Poker. He's banked more than $400,000 from deep runs in the Millionaire Maker (seventh place) and Event #44: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em (third). A November Nine run would be quite the cherry on top.
