Diaz Bets Out a Player, Martin Triples

Nivel 8 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante

Alejandro Martin in before a player in the cutoff raised to 4,000. Alberto Diaz called on the button before the big blind three-bet to 12,000. Martin called all in for 10,900, while Diaz also called.

The flop came J810 and the big blind continued for 11,000. Diaz called and the 4 fell on the turn. The big blind then slowed down and checked as Diaz fired out 17,000.

The big blind spent several minutes in the tank into the dinner break before folding. Diaz then turned over AK, while Martin had KK and secured the triple up once the 10 fell on the river.

Manuel Ledesma
Manuel Ledesma

Last year in Madrid, it was a storybook finish for Spain’s Manuel Ledesma under the bright lights of the final table at his home poker room.

After starting the final day as the short stack with just 10 big blinds, the Madrid resident battled his way back at Casino Gran Via, staying alive several times before finishing the night holding the coveted €888 Main Event trophy and taking home €58,000. The win was a test of his endurance, after surviving the Day 1b turbo before bagging at the end of 11 more levels of play on Day 2.

Ledesma outlasted a field of 435 entries across four starting flights to take the largest portion of the €333,905 prize pool. The final first-place prize was decided after a heads-up deal with runner-up Juan Lyons, who earned €52,000 for his efforts.

Togores Flops the Goods to Bust One

Nivel 9 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Three-handed on a flop of 947, a player in the hijack bet 1,000 and Claudio Di Giacomo raised to 3,500 on the button. Francisco Togores then reraised to 12,000 in middle position and only the hijack called.

The turn was the A and Togores moved all in. The hijack snap-called for 25,000 with A8 for top pair, but Togores had flopped a flush with 108, leaving his opponent looking only for another club to make a higher flush.

The A river instead gave him only no-good trips as Togores scored the knockout.

Zaccagnini Goes Runner-Runner to Triple

Nivel 9 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

With 14,000 in the pot on a flop of J810, Mario Zaccagnini bet 10,000 from middle position and Soufiane Saada called on the button. An early-position player then raised to 23,000 and Zaccagnini called for his last 20,200. Saada took a few minutes but also called to create a side pot.

Saada and his opponent checked down the Q turn and 2 river. "Anyone have jack-nine of diamonds?" Zaccagnini asked as he showed AA for the nut flush. Saada mucked Q6, while the middle-position player tossed 1010 for a beaten set into the muck.

Flop Smacks Both Players as Fidchuk Doubles

Nivel 9 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

A player in the cutoff raised to 2,200 and Evgeny Fidchuk three-bet to 10,000 on the button. The small blind then four-bet to 18,500 and the cutoff got out of the way, but Fidchuk moved all in for 61,300 and the small blind snap-called.

Evgeny Fidchuk: AA All in
Opponent: JJ

Fidchuk had his opponent crushed as he showed a pair of aces. The A came in the window to improve him to a set, and it was followed by J8 as his opponent also made a set. The 9 turn also gave the small blind a flush draw, but Fidchuk held on through the 4 river to earn the double up.

Andreu Slows Down Lightbourne

Nivel 9 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Five players limped in to see a flop of J83 where action checked to Iaron Lightbourne on the button. He bet 2,000 and only German Andreu called in the small blind.

"Why you always wait for me?" Lightbourne said to Andreu as the 8 fell on the turn. Lightbourne then took a sip from his drink before tossing in another 2,000, but this time Andreu came back with a raise to 6,000. Lightbourne quickly called.

Andreu slowed down and checked the 9 river. "Nine is good," Lightbourne said, checking back. Andreu didn't have a nine, but he did show Q8 for trips to win the pot.

"Ace-three. I thought he was trying to bluff me," Lightbourne added after the hand. Despite dropping that pot, Lightbourne is still sitting on a big stack of around 170,000.
