Margereson Sends Sorainen to the Rail

On a A♥7♠6♠ flop, Luka Sorainen check-called a bet of 2,200 from Scott Margereson and the turn was the K♦.

With 11,000 in the middle, Sorainen checked again and Margereson bet the pot. Sorainen called.

The river was the 3♣. Sorainen checked for the third time and Margereson moved all in. Sorainen sat with around 40,000 behind and called.

Margereson tabled A♠Q♠ for a missed flush draw, but top pair, with Sorainen out-kicked after turning over A♦2♣.

The tournament clock shows 145 players remaining from a field of 336. When they return there will be one more level before late registration closes.

The road to PokerStars European Poker Tour glory always has plenty of twists and turns, and the record-breaking 2023 EPT €5,300 Prague Main Event was no exception.

Jon Kyte, who had led the tournament from Day 3, entered the finale with 229 big blinds and a historic chip lead, one that was assumed to be unassailable. Padraig O'Neill had other ideas and was unexpectedly awarded the final EPT Trophy of the 2023 season after overcoming the Norwegian in heads-up play.

Known affectionately as "Smidge" in the Irish poker community, O'Neill came into the day as the shortest stack and turned his 12 big blinds into a €1,030,000 payout. With the victory, he became Ireland's second-ever EPT Main Event champion, 11 years after Steve O'Dwyer reigned supreme in Monte Carlo.

Mikulas Forces a Fold

There were already around 35,000 chips in the pot on a full board of Q♠7♣8♣A♦5♦ when Igor Iarmoshuk checked from the big blind and Filip Mikulas fired out 30,000. Iarmoshuk was considering his options and certainly had the chips to call, but elected to fold, relinquishing the pot to Mikulas.

Spraggs in Action; Marle Down Early

Both Marle and Benjamin Spragg jumped into Day 1a of the Eureka Main Event on dinner break and both have been in action early.

Marle Spragg opened from under the gun and was called by Ritvars Cekalins in the big blind. Cekalins check-called a bet on the 10♣8♣2♣ flop but check-folded to a bet of 5,000 on the Q♦ turn.

On the very next hand, Cekalins raised to 4,500 from the small blind. Spragg defended her big blind.

The flop came A♦9♦5♥ and Spragg called 2,500. The turn was the 8♠ and Spragg called 6,000. The river 3♣ completed the board. Cekalins moved all in, covering Spragg, who quickly folded.

Erik Bakker had just joined as the dinner break ended, but was out just as quickly.

Bakker raised the button to 3,000 then called the shove of Dimitrios Kilintaris in the big blind, who had a covering stack.

Bakker looked set for a double-up and remained in the lead on the A♦10♣8♠ flop. A 7♠ turn was also safe, but a 4♥ on the river meant Kilintaris took the pot, which sent Bakker out before he could even get his seat warm!
